Cavetown: Telescope Meaning
Song Released: 2019
Telescope Lyrics
Fabricate a lie and relay it back to you
In my head, it's only letters
Make it make sense to make it better
Mm, mm, mm
It's a perfect time to put my money in my mouth
Chew it up and spit it...
-
The song is about feeling different to how you actually are inside, lyrics that suggest that he screams inside and that he only meets people in the venue on the outside, and wants to show more of himself.(gosh I can relate). The lyrics “
Put my money in my mouth, chew it up and spit it on the ground”(or what the precise lyrics were) mean that people tell him he should actually show people who he is or that he has so many responsibilities that he actually has to commit, but robin says that he can’t do any of that (hence the spitting) because he feels like this inside. When he describes sitting in a telescope and wandering what it’s like outside, he’s talking about wandering what people would think if he was his true self in public. At the end of the music video of telescope, his mask is broken because she can’t stand this anymore. There’s more details but this is the just of it.
