Record Year Lyrics
-
Another song Church takes credit for not written by him. Written by a poet whose pen name is DC Knight. The poem is about when he was a young man and his Girlfriend broke up with him and he would sit in a room with an old stereo and listen to his Columbia record collection and others that included a variety of music including Stevie Wonder songs in the key of life, Wille Nelson Waylon Jennings BobDylan the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

I love how he slips in different coping mechanisms as a double meaning. There are several of them. Flip her over, one bourbon, one scotch, one beer (Sex and drinking), counting on the needle to save me (drug use), I'll either get over you or I'm gonna blow out my ears (suicide). I keep catching new meanings as I listen to it. He's an amazing writer

One line that I think about is "your leaving left me going crazy, I'm counting on a needle to save me. I drop it in the groove, and we go down and down and round in a spiral."
This sounds like a clear drug reference, heroin. -
A play on words in title and meaning. Eric describes that though she may have left him, it is for the best, as he will have a record year without her (a record year in farming for example is when you have the best crop yield possible). His version of having this, incidentally, is by finding himself in music and records of course. Also having a few drinks while listening of course.
