King Crimson: Exiles Meaning
Exiles Lyrics
Strange that the palms of my hands
Should be damp with expectancy
Spring, and the air's turning mild
City lights, and the glimpse of a child
Of the alleyway infantry
Friends... do they know what I mean?
Rain,...

The lyrics to "Exiles" were written by Richard Palmer-James, an English musician who was a friend of King Crimson vocalist John Wetton and a former member of Supertramp.
Palmer-James wrote these lyrics after living in the Netherlands for many years, and the lyrics reflect his realization that he was never going back to England. He was now an exile in the Netherlands. He still had some fond memories of England, but it was no longer home. He had left it behind in pursuit of musical stardom, and he found that he no longer belonged there.
