Beatles: Day Tripper Meaning
Song Released: 1965
Day Tripper Lyrics
Got a good reason for taking the easy way out now
She was a day tripper, one way ticket yeah
It took me so long to find out, and I found out
She's a big teaser, she took me half the way...

#1 top rated interpretation:Others think this song is about hookers. that is a definite possibility. the interpretation I came up with, which may or may not be correct is that the author of the song spends a day with a girl. being a big rock star, he expects to "get some". she teases him and gets him aroused, but doesn't "finish the job", thus the line "she's a big tease, she took me half the way there". and by "it took me soooooo long to find out", it means he "wasted" the entire day with her only to find out he wasn't going to "get any". and the "plays one night stands" line could mean that she "plays" like they are going to have a one night stand but then doesn't come through in the end. since she acted like she was going to "go all the way" and then it becomes clear she is not going to, he feels entitled to "take the easy way out" and ditch her.

#2 top rated interpretation:Day Tripper by the Beatles is a song which combines two totally different aspects. Its about their Drug abuse and about their realtionship with hookers. From the drugs point of view .. "She was a day tripper One way ticket, yeah
It took me so long to find out And I found out
She's a big teaser She took me half the way there "
The term "Tripper" relates to drug abuse. The second line of the quoted material tells us that it took the band so long to find out about the drug, and that they did finally find out.
"She's a big teaser She took me half the way there" this line gives everything away. The "She" in the above phrase refers to the drug. Now lets say we split a day into two halves, day & night. The line "She took me half the way there" indicates that the drugs affect or trip only lasted for half a day or for 12 hours. Therefore the title "Day Tripper"
Now about the other aspect of the song. The part which involves the one night stand is the second part of the song and also the second half of the day. She only teased, and played but eventually nothing works out. Just like how the affect of the drug dies out after teasing them for half a day so does the hooker for the other half of the day.
So, basically when the song starts , it goes "Got a good reason For taking the easy way out" it implies that they have the right to relax and enjoy the pleasures of life, after all of their hard work but instead lifes pleasures play tricks with them. -
It's about John's habit of tripping over the eight days of the week *Uh Oh, I just tripped over Sunday. Oops, there's Monday. Whoops, there's Tuesday. Oh my, and there's To Me.* The lyrics which state "Half the way there" are because he only ended up tripping over 4 out of the 8 days, or 1/2 (half) of the days. Before he wrote this song. The lyrics "One way ticket" is an explicit reference to the song Ticket To Ride. While John was writing said song it was rumored that he tripped over Sunday in a hurry to get to the Studio the next Monday to start the recording sessions. Anyway that's what I think it means.

Masturbation. Masturbation is the easiest way to take the easy way out. Easier than finding a whore.

Go to any other site and it will tell you the same: this song is about LSD. A day tripper is someone who can't afford the "luxury" of being high all the time, like a weekend hippie. They were introduced to LSD by a dentist. This isn't about prostitutes!
-
One night stand on acid guys?
-
She was only interested in one night stands and didn't want to love anybody yet
-
notice the similarity of 'she's a big teaser' and 'she's a prick teaser'? I think the song is about a prostitute who didn't give him all he wanted.
-
It is sexual, but he's hardly talking about prostitutes. He's talking about a tease, who's reluctant, because sexually, she's a day tripper. (Like a driver with not too much experience.) Sunday driver yeah, it took him so long to find out, but he found out. He blew the scene. Maybe if she'd've been more honest.

Paul McCartney said in an interview that this song was about pot, not acid.
-
this explanation comes from "the mammoth book of the beatles":
"the more streetwise of the beatles' audience would have made the connection between acid trips and the title phrase, and understood "sunday driver" to be a contemptuous reference to a dabbler.
however, one shouldnt go overboard over the drug references, the similarities of the phrase "big teaser" to "prick teaser", the snaking guitar riff, the quasi-orgasmic build up of the instrumental break or the general sinewy r&b nature of day tripper." -

I agree with the interpretaion regarding hookers. As per John and Paul in past interviews. They had a lot of fastlove, the one way ticket refers to a German Hookers Health card which was required for registered women in said trade. These ladies of the night had the usual reason for taking the easy way out. " got a good reason for taking the easy way out". It beats working or studying or I was abused.
"Tried to please her , she only played one night stands", it is fooish get emotionally involved with fallen women. But lonely fools they were. The Beatles were young and talented at times fueled by drugs, lust, love, and loneliness- all that Rock and Roll has to offer- and ah yes evetually fame. -
