Nero: Promises Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Promises Lyrics
How can I ever deny,
You got me so high,
So high I cannot feel the fire.
And you keep telling me,
Telling me that you’ll be sweet,
And you’ll never want to leave my side,
As long as I don’t break these...
Promises,...

#1 top rated interpretation:this song means a lot of things to everyone. but for me it tells a story of a lover who kept all promises of being faithful and always being there, but at the end its all an illusion and the one who kept the promises feels wasted because she waited and did everything right and realized it wasnt worth it and now is depressed.

#2 top rated interpretation:It's about how protecting the ones you love and not risking relationships (if you haven't seen the music video, it really helps, at the beginning a dialouge sequence goes something like this
Woman: It's so beautiful. I feel, I can't even explain this.
Man: You must stop this!
Woman: I can't, I won't,
which shows how their forbidden love makes her feel amazing but their relationship will be risked if she rebels and brings attention to thier situation) seen the rebelling against something can make you feel "high", but it can be dangerous, however free will is stronger than opression. In terms of the music video, it shows a dystopian future where regimneted mind-controlling drug consumption is forced (promises to the society), however a woman decides to rebel against the system and spits out her pills, allowing her to feel affection (It's so beautiful. I feel, I can't even explain this.). -

#3 top rated interpretation:My Interpretation is that is Neros interpretation on society, being part of the system and that it supposed to be good for humankind, making everything easy - Get a job have nice food, nice house perfect existence "Sweet/you got me so high", but overall our instinct knows better and makes us rebel against order - Hence the not taking the pill (Which is the crap all of us listen to and either go along with or deny from the mouth of those in power).
The promises are wasted because before we were blind and promised to follow the regime, but we've come to realise that their wasted. Make sence dudes? :D -
He keeps making all these promises that he'll change he will be sweeter he will be this he will do that but there's only so many promises he can make and break before it's no longer his fault anymore it's hers for staying and she's starting to realize the highs may be high but the lows are too low and too frequent. Once you start loving yourself those red flags start turning into deal breakers

It seems to me according the video the girl and guy fall in love, but they are not allowed to be together, society has instructed them to stay apart. Society has place a hold on them, hence the pill. The girl and guy have a conversation and in that conversation, the girl urges the guy to join her, even they both know they shouldn’t engage by being together. The girl left thinking it was a go and didn’t take the pill( she went against the order of things, the one in power) She broke the law. Later she is discovered with the guy and captured having emotions, then taken away. (Put back in her place)
The guy never having kept his promise, simply because he never made one it was only implied. Girl did all that and broke the law for a guy who truly never would love her above all else. -
Plain and simple lyrics with no proverb or multi interpretation, dunno why this still needs to be explained, just like what the lyrics told us.
A woman fell in love with a "broken" man and he makes her to keep the promises he demands, so he will return the favor and be sweet and never gonna leave her side, but a hoe needs to do what a hoe needs to do, because what she wanted is "gangsta, gangsta" not a loyal and sweet loverboy like him, she can't be caged like a bird, she want an open relationship, the you do your own thing and i'll do my own thing but at the end of the day, get back together again.
So, those promises are wasted on her, she's not sure she can keep it nor did she want him to be like that.
Moral of the story, a hoe(man/woman) should leave a good person(man/woman) alone 'cause nothing good gonna come up from that kind relationship, it just gonna make more casuality and more broken people and more life being ruined.
And finally, the last interpretation from a different/opposite view is... *drumrolls* TADA! There's none! She just hungry for affection, she needs to be loved, no string attached, she doesn't like to be told this or that and definetely she needs her freedom to do anything she wanna do or like or love, in short, she needs a beta male personality, no alpha male personality will ever tolerate that from their partner. -
A guy is really in lust n feels passionate about a girl. She asks him to promise something and she will stay with him and be sweet. He either breaks it n she leaves. Or he keeps the promises n she leaves. Either way, the promises was wasted on something he choose.
-
I feel as though it's about a girl who is in love with a guy but I'd unsure of whether he feels the same way about her. "And you keep telling me that you'll be sweet" is like he makes it look like he likes her back, "they still feel all so wasted on myself" she is unsure of whether he is too good for her. I also believe that the songs people really feel are the ones that they completely relate to in their circumstance, this one particularly for me.

I think it's about a girl who is in love with a guy, but she's not sure about her feelings. She doesn't know if she deserves his love, if she's able to keep these promises.
-
I think the song shows that she is deeply inlove but can't promise the promises her lover has asked of her . Like will u promise me to stay with me forever and will u marry me one day. promises sometimes you don't now if you can make
-
I hear it as a plea to God. He's got her so high (feeling protected) that she can't even feel the fire. (Hell) But she's not worthy of the protection. She can't keep with the commandments, & therefore the promises are wasted on her.
-
Its based on love and you can't brake the promises. But its about being addicted to a drug and addicted to love with promises of so much. She is talking about him making her feel so good. And u cant brake the promises that they made. And u cant waste those promises y make to someone. Even if someone is controlling you!
-
she felt the promises were wasted on her, because he had no promises made by him.
-
For me the song is about a girl whos is madly in love with a guy. Shes so crazy about him, she doesnt feel the fire or see the problems/difficulties in the relationship. And the guy puts conditions or makes her promise many things so he can stay with her, but in the end she feels wasted because of all the promises she made.
