The Used: Blue and Yellow Meaning
Blue and Yellow Lyrics
and it starts just where the light exists
it's a feeling that you cannot miss
and it burns a hole through everyone that feels it
well you're never gonna find it
if you're looking for it
won't come...

#1 top rated interpretation:"[Blue and Yellow is] really close to my heart. I wrote it about Quinn—our relationship and how close we are. The first day we met was special; he's just one of those people that you meet in your life that's special. You know you're going to be with this person forever and you know you're going to be close to that person. And it's pretty much about being in a band with someone ... being around someone 24 hours a day is really hard thing to do, and sometimes we don't get along the greatest, but if it came down to it, I'd much rather be Quinn's friend than be in a band with Quinn. That's how close our relationship is. It's great. That's how close that song is to me—I love it."
thats exactly what Bert said
i was listening to Blue And Yellow the frist time I read it and I started bawling so hard I love those guys so much Bert & Quinn own me -

#2 top rated interpretation:I know this song is about Quinn and Bert's relationship. This song is about a really deep relationship. I think the only way you will get this song is if you have a relationship with a friend that is very deep.
"and it's all in how you mix the two
and it starts just where the light exists
it's a feeling that you cannot miss
and it burns a hole through everyone that feels it"
It's about a relationship between two people. No one knows how it truley starts (where the light exists). If you have this type of relationship you positively know about it, there is no way you can confuse the feeling with something else. (a feeling that you cannot miss/ and it burns a hole through everyone that feels it)
"well you're never gonna find it
if you're looking for it
won't come your way
well you'll never find it
if you're looking for it"
Don't try to look for it. Cause you can't simply find the one person who understand you so clearly. It just happens, and there is nothing that you can do to find that person.
"should've done something but I've done it enough
by the way your hands were shaking
rather waste some time with you"
People and your mind are telling you to go do things. But seeing this person you are so close too be upset (hands shaking) you would give up everything in the world to just try and help them and spend time with them.
"and you never would have thought in the end
how amazing it feels just to live again"
Going through this type of relationship you will definatly deal with hardships, but in the end of it all you will feel so alive.
It's not about a love (getting married, having kids, etc.) type of relationship. But a friendship relationship. -

This song could be about anything to anyone who hears it. He didn't write it so everyone could think about him and quinn when they hear it.
Since it was originally written about Bert and Quinn I must admit it most surly isn't about Kate.
But this song is about love...Bert and Quin love each other. The song is not gender specific so it could be about a couple who almost lost each other but found each other again through the hardtimes.
So before you proove anyone wrong think about it people, cause it seems there are just some close-minded people in here. -
you guys.... there's a difference between mixing paint and mixing light of different colors. when you mix light of different colors it makes it brighter. this song is about balance, about how when love is true it's in everything you do, even if you should've done or said more it's still all over you and the other person gets it.

A couple got engaged at one of their concerts I went to. Burt then sang this song, he said this song is about love. The journey, the feeling etc. It's about love.

About the song, lead singer Bert McCracken said:
"[Blue and Yellow is] really close to my heart. It's great. That's how close that song is to me—I love it."[3]

Blue and yellow. It's uppers and downers. Valium is blue and pma is yellow. It's also about a turbulent relationship that can be amazing when you 'mix the two' well. Like pills. It's saying that the relationship may be unhealthy but it's amazing at the same time.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but this song is about heroin and coke. Blue and yellow is really meaning black and white. Speedball's are what they're called when you do them together. It might be interpreted differently nowadays but when the song was written it was definitely about drugs. I'm unfortunately speaking from prior experience but like Burt I'm past that point in my life.
-
You're all stupid. This song is about drugs, all their songs are.
-
if it is about quinn and berts friendship why do the band not play it? surely they are still friends? mmmmm its about the death of kate and his unborn child. if it was about friendship then he wouldnt burst into tears during a performance and they would play it live which they dont

Without going in to specific circumstances about who the song was written for, I think it is safe to say that the song is about love and relationships (romantic or otherwise). I would like to touch more on the title though.
Some have made passing comments about the songs title but no one has really explored the signifigance of the colors blue and yellow and how they correspond to emotion.
Blue= Sadness, Depression
Yellow= Cowardice, being scared or affraid
Blue+Yellow=Green
Green= Jealousy or Envy
Depression and fear can be very hard on a relationship. When you throw jealousy into the picture it can straight up ruin a relationship. I think what the song is saying is that at the end of the day none of that garbage really matters, I just wanna be with you, even if it is just wasted time. -
i think its about jealously.
blue and yellow make green.
"its all in how you mix the two"
green is the color of jealousy or envy.
i dunno what he was jealous of or about. -
I think that this song is about a person who has panic attacks/bipolar disorder, but who has started working to help themselves. He knows someone else who has the same thing, and isn't getting help, bit hates them so much that he doesn't say anything, he just wastes time watching them suffer. (By the way your hands were shaking rather waste some time with you.)
-
I know for a fact this song is about love. If you listen to them live, or go to their shows, Bert begins it by saying 'This song is about love'.
It does involve talk about drugs, but that is involved with the journey of love, especially with what happened between him and Kate. -
It's about a relationship between anyone close. doesn't have to be a guy and guy or a girl and a girl or a girl and a guy. Its just best freinds, lovers, or someone just close to you. just someone you could say i'd rather waste my time with you to. by the way your hands were shaking, fear of losing someone or maybe your nervous because your meeting someone the first time. It s got potential to be about drugs, anything your just dying to be with
-
This song is about love, its also about friendship, this song is designed so the listener could find either meaning
-
I think this song is about how much people like puppies. Bert likes puppies, he said so in an interview.
"I like puppies, everybody likes puppies, you don't like puppies? This interview is over!" - Bert
Ernie had no comment.
