Within Temptation: Jillian Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Jillian Lyrics
to find a meaning to understand.
The secret of life,
why am I here to try again?
Will I always, will you always
see the truth when it stares you in the face?
Will I ever, will I never free myself

This song is based on Katherine Kerr novels of the Kingdom of Deverry series. Set in a magical Celtic world it is about the journey of the wizard Nevyn over many centuries to fulfill his oath to "set things right". He follows Jill who is reincarnated through many life cycles until he can finally fulfill his oath and convert her to a wizard like himself.

This just came to me when I listened to the song. This is what I interpreted it as:
It's about two angels, living in heaven, who are famed for the stories they bring back from their heavenly battles and successes. And so, these to angels reveled in their glory.
But one day something happend. Jillian gets cursed accidentally, and the other angel, being responsible for this, gets banished from heaven and is set to find a way to reverse the curse. As he searches the world, he sees the ages pass around him. He sees kingdoms rise and fall, the wonders and horrors of the world, and he starts to wonder at the meaning of mortal life.
But all the while he thinks of Jillian, regretting what he did and praying that he will find the way to change it back to how it was so that he can escape the immortal eternity on Earth. -
To me this song is about a vampire-turned human who had a romantic relationship with someone named Jillian. The vampire, now inhabiting the house were they lived together decades ago (or maybe infront of this Jillian's grave?) sings of how he's forsakened to stay in this retched world untill it ends and how he/she longs to reunite with Jillian in the afterlife. Our immortal singer here also appears terribly disappointed by the rest of humanity and their sinful ways stating that in the end "Their fate is forlorn" (probably looking at a nearby parliament or something). In no means an evil vampire.
Just my interpretation. -
About two girls and Jullian.

I read that the song was written for a miss Jillian Marie. Don't know anything more.

Sharon Den Adel must have had a friend named Jillian. It is suggested she did something wrong and has an intense need to make it right. Jillian must be an old friend that he hasnt spoken to in a while or ha passed; "Jillian, our dream ende long ago" and "Ill always be here, till the end." it is a very gentle song yet very powerful. Well written Ms. Adel

I know this is a bit warped, but this is a scenario of what might have happened.
Two homeless girls meet on the streets, one named Jillian. They become best friends, and make plans for great things that they're going to do. Their time together is really important to them. One day one of them says, "come on, let's go do this", whatever this is. They go do whatever it is, and Jillian is shot and killed. The other girl thinks that it's her fault, because if she hadn't had the idea Jillian would be alright. She'll do anything to make what she did right again.
