AJR: Turning Out Pt. II Meaning
Turning Out Pt. II Lyrics
Honestly you were and you chose me
Maybe I fucked up everything
Is this how it feels to be blue?
You said you’d love me no matter what
You said you’d love me, is that what I loved?
All of these choices messed...

This song is about the intrigue of love, how it seems so simple and certain, how it seems you know who you really are. It shows that in reality there are lies you tell yourself and allow to become your identity. "I am in love with this woman" is a way to identify yourself. When you lie to yourself with false identities, your real feelings rip you away from your maintained idea of self and cause a separation of mind from identity. only admittance can help you realize who you are without lies and uncertainty. A false identity will cause uncertainty when "who you are supposed to be" is different from "who you are" and cause a feeling that you aren't enough. You will be fooled by your false identity and it will rip you apart until you realize the full truth.

This song is a sequel to the love song "Turning Out" from The Click and it's about how he wasn't really in love.
