#1 top rated interpretation:I think this song is about a man who had a crush on a girl many years before. He never told her how he felt and as he is older, now regret's not telling her. The "familiar song" is a song that he associated with her when he knew her and upon hearing it, thinks of her again. "More than a feeling" mean's that maybe it wasn't just a crush, maybe they could have fallen in love and had a relationship but he'll never know for sure. B/C of that, the memory of her still haunts him.

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song is about one of the band members starting his day with a bit of music and then remembers someone from long ago. This person left him and made a deep emotional scar on his life. This womans name was marianne ("I see my marianne walkin away") and she left him with almost no notice ("I closed my eyes and she slipped away")

He lost someone he loved and he hurts thinking about her.

It is to the the T about my true love. After 40 yrs I cannot forget him or get him out of my mind. I did see him 20yrs ago and all those memories can to surface. It was like we never parted. He told me that the song "more than a feeling" by Boston is what he feels about me. I have listened to it for over 20yrs. I know the lyrics by heart. What I would do to see him again. Just once..

When I was a kid I had a crush on Marianne from Gilligan's Island. I assumed "More Than A Feelin" was about her.
-
I've always thought that it was about lost love & that them closing their eyes & "slipping away" was describing how they may be telepathically connected to one another. They both closed their eyes & "slipped away". Deep shit. lol

Look it up on youtube. Tom wrote the song about his cousin Marian.
-
Well the song is actually about, ANSOLUTLEY NO LIE a guy who had a crush on his cousin.
-
I think the song is about a guy who falls in love with a girl who he never got the chance to tell her about the feelings he had for her because rather she died or rather she moved to a different state or whatever! However, there's this song that always plays somewhere in the background whenever he sees her. After whatever happened to the girl, when he hears the song playing on the radio, the song would give him memories of the girl and when he gets these memories, he wishes that he could go back in time to fix up the mistake he made and tell her about the feelings he has her!

hes horny shes horny their horny they slipped away. he was in love and she was drunk the next morning she is gone and he is broken

I think this song is about someone have sex with their partner and slips away into his/her own little land

"When you’ve loved and lost the way Frank has, then you know what life’s about.... No one can sing the subtext of a song the way he can."
-
I think it's about a guy (maybe Brad Delp himself) who whenever he hears a song, makes him think about a very special girl he use to date. Most of the other girls he slowly forgot over the years; "The faces fade as the years go by." But he always remembered Maryann and what she looked like; "yet I still recall as I wonder on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky." Then one day he hears the song again and tried to think back but couldn't seem to remember what she looked like; "I closed my eyes and she slipped away."
I always think of it like this, and it seems to actually be a pretty sad song of just one day not being able to remember. -
This song is really about what happened to me when I was 18yrs old.I had been dating a great girl and the love of my life. Her name was Marianne and she was a true Angel. We dated for 2yrs. One sat. night after I took her home she called me to let know she was pregnant. She asked me what we were going to do? I told her we were going to do the right thing since we loved each other,we would figure all this out tomorrow when I drove down. The next day I got to her house, knocked on the door. Her mother came to the door and told me thur the door she was gone now get off my property before I call the cops. True story.

Marianne or Mary Ann was a temp or admin or something similar that worked for the band for a while. She was tall and looked very good in short shorts. As she walked by everyone turned to watch as she "walked away". Never got old.

I was told long ago that this song was about masturbation, and the more I hear it the more I believe it!
"I close my eeeeyes...and I slip awaaaaayyy!"
