To my point of view if we analize the first phrase "To whom i owe this gift my friend? my life, my love, my soul" sound like a gratitude, the chorus is an invitation to leave outside and discover the world together

It's about one's struggle with depression, as we've found out Scott is bipolar now and this song was written at a time where he felt he wanted to leave all this and get away.
