Clair Lyrics

Clair

The moment I met you, I swear.

I felt as if something, somewhere,

Had happened to me, which I couldn't see.

And then, the moment I met you, again.

I knew in my heart that we were friends.

It had to be so, it couldn't be...

No one need worry about "ruining" the song for me. My mind doesn't leap to the gutter like so many of these sick critical commenters seem to. Oh what thoughts must reside in their filthy minds to make the assumption or conclusion that the song's author and/or singer had the nasty pedophillic ideas they quickly leap to. Never even would have occurred to me, as those ideas are not resident in my mind. Just an absolutely beautiful song about the platonic love for a young child.

We have to realize that this song was made when world was much younger than today and love given to anyone for free without any personal prejudice like we do today. Also the cultural differences becomes very evident.

I really think it's an innocent song about the platonic love of an uncle and niece,
However it does at some point in the lyrics lead to a misunderstanding that there may be a sexual pedophile connotation.

    Unfortunately We will never know..

I would like to think is a totally platonic love between an uncle and nice
As previously commented a young girl of 3 can make comments that she wants to marry her dad or uncle or whatever it's totally innocent..
Bottom line it's us who give the final interpretation in the end.
Just hope the sick ones are not here,... hope...

It at first seams to appear incentive enough with genuine affection that an uncle can have for a neice, but often in reality it can lead to other things, so I believe it is a form of pedophilia sorry to say and ruin the inocense

he's one of my fave singers in the 70s & i still listen to this song Claire coz it brings back memory of when i was in school! The more i listen to this nice/beautiful tune i kinda t/late it as yes any young girl who's innocent wld want to say i'd like to marry you coz recently there was this ad on t.v. where the li'l girl says to his grandpa she'd like to marry him, that's i think fr an innocent child w/o malice at all! anyway gg back to the song i did up to now misconstrued it as a niece wanting to say she wants to marry her uncle but let's just perceived this lyric as purely innocent, and not even thinking it's a perv song! my opinion!

How about Clair is Gilbert's secret daughter? I read somewhere that they try to meet now that is she older and a mother herself, but they never can. Could it be that Gilbert's wife, Eskee is jealous of his first daughter? Look at Clair's picture, she has a high forehead like Gilbert's. Jo Waring introduced Gilbert to her husband (Gordon) because she liked Gilbert's music. You do the math.....

First it is spelled Clair... drop the e. And this us not a love song from an uncle to a neice. It was a present to Gilbert O'Sullivan's brother and sister-in-law. A song about their youngest child, Clair, whom Gilbert (real name Raymond) often babysat. If these trolls instantly thought that pedophilia was the inspiration, maybe it is because they are pedophiles themselves.

Some of you people are sick! Stop trying to project your mental pathologies onto normal people. Not everything is sexual, and if that's how you view the world, please get help.

I think Gilbert is a pervert who is lusting after his 4 yr old niece and he is the same guy who gave us Alone Again Naturally. What a loser.

It is common for a son to love his mother
for a daughter to love her father infact
psychology studies suggest it is a condition we all have but most break away from under natural circumstances to have a healthy life. What the song is doesn't matter. How the music and words affect us really puts across a powerful feeling of what it is be alone. Hab
