It sounds like to me he's dealing with someone who thinks they're better than everyone else or someone who's stubborn(glass is hard) someone's whos stubborn is hard to change or someone who always thinks they're right and doesnt think of anyone but themselves.He sticks up for himself (Should I apoloize if what i say burns your ears or stains your eyes? Oh did I crack your shell?).......you realize that we exist as well
