Everything You Want Lyrics

Somewhere there's speaking
It's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
You never could get it
Unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why

But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places...

To me this song is About a girl that has been in love with all the wrong guys . guys that were not good for her but she tried to make all of these relationships work an now she has a guy who is perfect in a way but she has no clue how to act or react because she has never had a good guy before an she is waiting for this guy to turn out like the others which is why she is scared to believe that maybe it could work so she wont let her self care about him even though at the end it is the sing that is the guy for her an he has seen the relationships she has gone thru an he knows that he is good for her

I always interpreted this song to include two people: the singer and the girl. The singer is perfect for the girl but she doesn't actually love him.

Theres clearly nothing religious about this song. This song is about a man (the singer) who fell in love with an amazing girl. The girl makes the singer do and say things exactly the way she wants it, and the guy gladly does everything for her. In return, the girl tells him she loves him, wants him, needs him and the guy foolishly believed it. Despite everything he did for her, he feels he really means nothing to her, and he doesnt know why... perhaps the girl's heart still belongs in her past which the guy never knew about from the start. in short, she's making a fool out of the guy and this song is hard evidence.

God is speaking to you... your thoughts and at the end he talks.

I see a lot of people saying it`s about a girl who likes a guy, but by listening to the chorus it seems to be the opposite .
    He's everything you want
    He's everything you need
    He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
    At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
    And you don't know why
It says He means nothing to you, you being a girl . It seems like this girl is friends with a boy or meets him or even dated him, he was exactly what she wanted but, she just didn`t like him .

I believe that the song is about a girl who remembers a relationship she has had with a guy. ("Somewhere there's speaking, It's already coming in, Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind

when i was a little girl, my dad would sing along to this song and soon enough i would be singing along to it too... anyways i always thought that it involved 3 people. the guy the girl and the guy that the girl loves but for some reason she doesn't feel like it's everything she thought it would be, like she felt empty loving him. i always thought that it was like the girl was perfect. beautiful, smart, nice... you get the drift. and that the guy (the singer) had always secretly pined for her. but he never had the nerve to tell her. she was with the guy she loved. he was popular, gorgeous, smart, nice... ya know the type of guy alll the girls want? anyways i always thought that like it says in the song "He's everything you want, he's everything you need, he's everything inside of you that you wish you could be, he says all the right things at exactly the right time." but she still couldn't help feeling like it wasn't whole, "but he means nothing to you and you don't know why" and then the singer is trying to help her through it. then in the end the 'he' changes to 'I'. i always thought that in the end she broke up with the other guy and got neither. that she never realized that the singer was the perfect guy for her. and in the end he thought that he meant nothing to her... and he didn't know why.

I don't refute any of the above interpretations....but when I hear this song...i feel its all about self-realization....first you realize that there is somebody who is perfect....but at the end you actually realize that I am the one who is perfect.....try to listen with this point of view.....and tell me...

Vertical Horizon have a lot of unrequited love songs, and I think this one is one of the best they've written. The premise is simple on the surface: girl loves guy, guy doesn't love her back, girl is always hurt emotionally but doesn't give up on the guy. This is one girl who has been knocked down time and time again by this uninterested guy ("But under skinned knees and the skid marks"). She is aware that her feelings are unreciprocated. But she never gives up on this boy she loves to death - proved loud and clear in the second verse's lines "You're waiting for someone to put you together / You're waiting for someone to push you away". The chorus is a little more complicated, and describes how much she wants and loves and adores this boy, yet also how deep down she knows he might not be worth it ("But he means nothing to you and you don't know why"). The bridge that comes after the second chorus describes her trying her hardest with him and hoping for the best, and the very last chorus changes the pronouns around to show that the one singing the song has actually been the guy in this painful relationship all along.
