My Chemical Romance: Cemetery Drive Meaning
Cemetery Drive Lyrics
Walk the dead
In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates
Way down
Mark the grave
Where the searchlights find us drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom...
-
I think this song is about a really depressed girl commiting suicide "and they found you on the bathroom floor". i think this is from the voice of her friend that missed her "i miss you" and its talking about how ever one is sad that she is gone "i miss you...so far" and its talking about her husband getting really sad " that made it so hard" and missing her kisses
-
ok so the people who said that this song is about some chick cheating on her dead husband: YOU ARE WRONG!!! this song is about Mikey and Gerards close friend who shot herself in the head (it isnt that much fun staring down a loaded gun). they found her on the bathroom floor (and they found you on the bathroom floor) after she did it, and so they wrote this song for her. it's rare that they play it in concert, and i think thats because that its too emotional for them. i also think that one of the guys in the band (mainly Gerard but im not sure) was sorta in love with her because the song says "and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard".

Ok so I'm gonna take a crack at this! wish me luck, ok here we go!( by the way I'm 13 so consider that.i love MCR though and have a pretty good understanding. Please read!)
all I no about the album is there was a shoot out in the dessert. The husband/boyfriend gets killed and the wife/girlfriend some how survived. now she's remarried and he misses her,and gradually he gets mader and mader. He wants to be with her so he makes a deal with the devil:so he must kill a thousand evil men. This is so he can see her/be with her.
'this night. walk the dead. In a solatairy style and crash the gates.in the dress your husband hates'
i think this means tonite he is out. His wife comes(alone) and mourns him. He is speaking in the third person - he hates it.
'way down.mark the grave. where the search lights find us drinking by the mausoleum door'
way down(I think it's in the back like a loner) mark the grave - she finds it and proceeds to mourn. She is there at his resting place and the search lights are a term meaning he finds her there.
'and they found you on the bathroom floor.i miss you so far. and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard.'
in all the confusion that her husband is now alive she kills herself and apprentley in a bathroom. He misses her so much and she is so far away (dead). and the collision of yor kiss that made it so hard means he saw and now she's gone and he has to go and that breif encounter seeing her made it harder to leave.
'back home. off the run. Singing songs that make you slit your wrists. It isn't that much fun. Staring down a loaded gun.'
they are talking about the events that led up to her killing herself. He is talking about how he died, and saying that is not that much fun is like trying to make her guilty.
'so I won't stop dying. won't stop lying. If you want I'll keep on crying.'
he's saying that he will keep killling the 1,000 men and he knows he is dead. He is lying to himself that he is doing it for her. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Well first of all in the LOTMS dvd Gerard says that he writes all of the songs and that they are all about the band (not just what the band has done but personally) he just jazzes them makes them into dangerous concepts that are nothing like what the lyrics tell you, for example Demolition Lovers Gerard has said that it was about his girlfriend at the time, obviously he didn't take her driving to both their deaths so MCR songs are not to be taken literally which is something I have seen especially in the You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison forum saying that Gerard was in prison and raped.
So sence that air has been cleared you are free to make your assumtions but beware when you assume you make an ass out of you and me lolx
Have fun my little piggies!. -
I'm pretty sure that this song is about one of Gerard's (vocalist) friends who committed suicide and I think her name is Maria Jose Santos because take a look at the booklet found inside the cd it says that this record is dedicated to the memories of Elena Lee Rush (Gerard and Mikey's grandmother) and Maria Jose Santos.
-
This song is about Gerard's friend who did a suicide before the band went on there first tour. Gerard and the friend who did a suicide might have been dating (the collision of your kiss that made it so hard) and in one of the live performances of cemetery drive Gerard says " this is one of the hardest drives me and Mikey and my band ever went on " so this song is about Gerard's and maybe the bands friends who did a suicide. She was depressed as well (singing songs that make you slit your wrists).
-
I think it is about a man who loves a married woman who is hated by her husband, the man and married woman love each other very very much, the husband finds out and in jealousy and rage, he kills his wife, staging it as a suicide. The man in grief then kills the husband.....My Interpretation is nothing like anyone elses so that probably means I'm wrong, But I personally like the song better this way.
-
This song is definitely about suicide. Gerard wrote this song after someone he cared about killed them self.
-
For some reason, this song has always made perfect sense to me. Ok, so picture this. A girl and her best friend (best friend being a guy) are walking through a cemetery, drunk and just having a good time. He walks her back home, and they kiss good night. She goes home to her abusive husband. The next day, her "friend" finds out that she committed suicide. The song (in my opinion) is about her friend missing her and not being willing to forget her.
-
I heard it was also about Gerard and Mikey's friend who killed them self. Hence the line 'and they found you on the bathroom floor' and 'I miss you'. I think she was also Gerard's girlfriend at one point which is why there is 'and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard'
It also relates to the concept of the album

I think it's about a girl who dies from a drug overdose and then this guy really loved her and he's depressed .He attempts suicide (staring down a loaded gun) and cuts himself. Also I think the girl was married (In the dress your husband hates) but wasn't happy .
-
K so you all are probably right but I heard it a little different. "Collision of your lips made it so hard" it means that Gerard, liked this girl and they shared a kiss and than she killed herself possibly becuz she was having a affair, maybe with Gerard? And she died in his arms and he misses her that is y he says it many times. Anyway that's just a little bit of what I heard.
-
1st, this song IS about adultery, it almost tells you that it is. Gerrard is singing first person about a married woman having an affair with him.
---
"this night, walk the dead
in a solitary style" (walking around in the graveyard)
"and crash the cemetery gates." (her husband crashes through the gates with his car trying to find them)
"in the dress your husband hates" (she's wearing a dress her husband hates out of spite, because she's mad at him)
"way down, mark the grave
where the search lights find us
drinking by the mausoleum door" (Her husband stopped the car near a specific grave when his headlights shined on them at the mausoleum)
"and they found you on the bathroom floor" (her husband killed her in the bathroom which is where unknown people found her, or he dragged her dead body into the bathroom)
"I miss you, I miss you so far
and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard" (Gerrard is obviously missing her a lot)
"back home, off the run" (he was running from her husband until he made it home)
"singing songs that make you slit your wrists" (he keeps singing songs that remind him of her and makes him slit his wrists)
"it isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun" (he remembers when her husband pointed the gun at him)
"so I won't stop dying, won't stop lying
if you want I'll keep on crying" (he's dying on the inside because he's forced to lie about his situation with her, which makes him cry)
"did you get what you deserve?
is this what you always want me for?" (self explanatory) -
Howdy, Y'all!
Well this song may be about adultery, but Gerard also wrote this song about his and Mikey's friend who committed suicide and was found on the bathroom floor. (Sound familiar?) Or about the book Estacy: three chemical romances by Irvine Welsh. (Yep, that's how they got the name!)
If you mess with the sound you can hear him say don't do it, don't do it. And he says are you there at all? do you care at all? Are you there at all?
Its awesome how combines his life with his story.
Anyway, now I'll try to give the other interpretation. Underline try.
'This night, walk the dead
In a solitary style
And crash the cemetery gates.
In the dress your husband hates'
This night walk the dead I think means the dead are being remembered. Like the dead are walking through people's hearts, if that makes any sense. The male lover is saying she is being remembered through his heart. She is dead in heaven, and he is trying to kill the 1,000 dudes and all. And in the dress your husband hates is kinda complicated. I think before both lovers died they broke up and she was remarried. Then they realized they still loved each little before they both died. He's saying this in bitter sarcasm.
'Way down, mark the grave
Where the search lights find us
Drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom floor'
Way down, mark the grave. The grave where they talked and crap and got back together and would hang out there all night. Where the search lights find us means someone found them when they were together during the night, and her husband found out. And they found you on the bathroom floor. Either her angry husband killed her or she killed herself. And the male lover dude found her on the bathroom floor.
'I miss you, I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard'
Obvious enough, I hope . . .
'Back home, off the run
Singing songs that make you slit your wrists
It isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun'
He's saying back home her life was crappy with her husband. And she was running away from him and slitting her wrists. It isn't that much fun staring down a loaded gun is saying being it and slitting your wrists was nothing compared to either your suicide/murder.
'So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying (are you there at all?)
If you want I'll keep on crying (do you care at all?)
Did you get what you deserve? (are you there at all?)
Is this what you always want me for?'
He'll keep dying for her and he'll keep lying to see her. He'll keep on crying for on. He wonders if she's just teasing him. Pretty obvious.
Phew, that took a while . . .
