Moon River Lyrics
I’m crossing you in style someday
Oh, dream maker, you heart-breaker
Wherever your going I’m going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s...

#1 top rated interpretation:Monn River, in simplest terms, is your Life
(or your life's journey). (1) It's "crossed" (much like a river) and it encapsulates both your joys(dreammaker) and sorrows (heartbreaker).
AND
(2) It's your constant companion (huckleberry friend) in quest of its destiny (rainbows end). -
Personally, I like to imagine that the reflection of a full moon on the ocean creates a moon river, a path to a life of experience and intrigue...a magical metaphorical direction that always beckons but never has an end.

message for all the dreamers outthere: when crossing the river this is the path with no return. On the other side of the river it s the other life, the one you re dreaming at and longing for. the playmate is waiting there holding the treasure that is hiding at the end of the rainbow... the same treasure you are holding in your dreams, you both share the same treasures the same values and love... but you have to leave everything behind if you go on the other side. all my love for this song.

My mother recently passed while I was singing this song to her. Just as I sang two drifters off to see the world and visualized my father and her walking off hand and hand. She had reached the "rainbows end" of her life's journey

The literal interpretation is much like the inspiriation that people get from it. The man who wrote the lyrics spent memorable summers on a river at a cabin that his parents had and dreamed of being a song writer. He and his friend went out to Hollywood and he became a very successful song writer and came back to his home as such. The name of the river was not very interesting though, so he looked on the map and picked an actual "Moon River" not far away from the one that inspired the song. I believe it was in one of the Carolinas. I was looking for his name when I came across this site; it shouldn't be too hard to find. I found it once before and many of his songs are familiar (or were to your parents). For me the actual facts behind many creative things add to the interest.
