Electric Light Orchestra: So Serious Meaning

So Serious Lyrics
-
When ELO disbanded many could not understand why it couldnt go on. ELO frontman Jeff Lynne was to many just that a frontman, but being the writer, producer and basically all things ELO it was a done deal. Also being private and not prone to long discussions on the topic it was a mystery to many.
Needless to say other members wanted the show to go on, and it lead to very strained relationships then and over some time later. (Refer to Kelly Groucutt and ELO 2)
Lynne had found new ideas and new projects outside the band and loved the studio not the stage.
So why was it SO SERIOUS? all this stuff about the breakup and the end of ELO. Thats according to many is the point of the song.
To add his relationship with management in the form of Don Arden was at an all time low. Don was fond of Jeffs money making ability but not fond of parting with Jeffs percentage. Jeff had threatened to sue, ( Sharon Osbourne states this in her book) and things were bad.
Many feel the last few albums reflect Lynnes final thoughts of ELO ,and that he put less into them . This can be argued but moreso they are less rated by the virtue of Lynnes vision of ELO being less orchestral and more electronic.
