Songs about Loneliness

Are you lonesome tonight? How about this afternoon, or even this morning? Humans are social creatures, and not having another one around for company tends to plummet our spirits. Of course, for those of us who are introverts, even hermits, they're more comfortable with their own company. But even the most anti-social of us yearn for a companion sometimes. Ponder the fact that the birth rate in North America peaks right around the second half of the month of September, right nine months around from Christmas. There, even the most solitary troll wants company over the winter holiday season.

In our digitally isolated age, where more and more people spend all their social time on electronic gizmos, we have both less isolation and yet we have more. We substitute in-person companionship for tweets and emails and video chat. It helps, but only time will tell how that affects us long term. Our guess is it won't matter much - lonely is lonely, as these songs make plain.
