In my opinion and in what I have heard, "I am the Walrus" was the Beatles being 110% random. In that time, other bands also wrote songs that made no sense what so ever but became a hit. Drugs may have been an influence in how things were arranged, but you can't blame that. The Beatles saw what others did, and tried it on their own. Which created this hit song. They did take things they knew as inspiration, but just because it was in the song doesn't mean that was what they were trying to make a point off of. This song was meant to make no sense.

Semolina pilchard is Detective sergeant Norman Pilcher, The eggman is Eric Burdon because he told John Lennon about something that happened to him where an egg played a major part, after that John called him the Eggman, The walrus is the walrus from the walrus and the carpenter.

Eric Burdon said to John BEFORE they wrote i am the walrus About something funny that happened to him where an egg played a magor role, after that John called him the Egg man. that solves the eggman problem,as for the walrus,John Lennon said himself"its from the walrus and the carpenter". That solves the walrus Problem.

In The Beatles song "I am the walrus", has a reference to Edgar Allan Poe in the lyrics, "Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe", but Edgar Allan poe was a American writer who born in Boston, and he died in Baltimore. John Lennon wants to see the nursery rhyme "Yellow matter custard", from a parody that he sang in elementary school, and learned from the song "I am the walrus", but many words are "Goo goo g'joob", and in the lyrics are "Coo cooo cooo chooob", but in the correct lyrics it's gooo gooo goo jooob.
