Beatles: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away Meaning
Song Released: 1965
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away Lyrics
Turn my face to the wall
If she’s gone I can’t go on
Feelin’ two-foot small
Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away
Hey...

There times when we are too quick to demonstrate our love because of the crush we have on that someone. This is obvious to our friends after it occurs several times. Upon failure, the person invites the friends (clowns) to gather round so that the proclamation of past advice can be heard again. One must learn to slowly let their love be known to the other without pressure and to hide the rushing love away until the proper time, lest we push away the object of our love forever.

My interpretation of this song(and I don't care if it is correct or not because it seems to work is,) it is about the ignorance of people in society who go around playing their roles without seeking the higher truth that is "love." And that put's a lot of pressure on the person who just wants to stay in a state of love to go down and act like a stupid fool like others in society. In other words, it is hard to be in a state of enlightenment and stay there without being laughed at and being considered weird. ( :

The songs about hiding your feelings and not acting the fool. Some things were not meant to be. Some love is not always what we hope for.

to anony on Feb 10th of '09. (Chist is it already 2011)
This is why the Beatles will surpass the ages, or be "timeless".
This is the ultimate stalker song, dependent on the mindset of the listener.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to pass judgment, mainly because I am too guilty of this on several counts, but following this song is about the love that has got away, or mainly never was, and are hoping for a chance at, or realizing, that there was no hope in the first place.
Trust me, I am guilty of this. Much time has passed in your situation, so the game has probably been played out and you already know the ending. I hope the best but realize what is... is.
Even as a good friend of hers (hoping)...
"how could she says to me 'love will find a way'", as she tries to hook me up with her cousin. - just a reference.

Exactly. The price of fame is your life is an open book but toBECOME a famous pop (rock) star in the 60's, you were single or you weren't signed, and any relationship was hidden.
I'm sure John and Brian discussed the problem since they both related to it, but the song wasn't about Brian, he and Brian both shared a source of pain and annoyance so he wrote a song about that problem, not a particular person.
I think. -
When the Beatles were hitting it big Brian told them that the Beatles have to appear available to the screaming girls that worshipped the ground they walked on. In saying that Brian may have had an ulterier motive - to keep Cyn away so he could have John to himself but that is just a theory.
Basically he is singing about love - CYNTHIA. Especially as Julian was born around this time. I feel that hes saying that he hates that he has to pretend hes single (you and I both know thats not true lol his "parties" are legendary) but what hes trying to say to her is that he hates hurtign her and hes sorry.
"Gather round all you clowns" - the clowns are business people that he resented, the media that he knew he had to keep happy and girls that thought they could have him.
I beleive that this is his reaction to being told what to do - even if it beniffited him in more ways than one!! -
I think it is about a couple that had an affair. In a circle of common friends. The friends know they had an affair and she broke if off and told him Love will find a way meaning if it was meant to be they would someday be together. The part when he says Here I stand head in hand turn my face against the wall if she's gone I can' go on feelin two foot small. He has seen them together. And when he sees them their friends are around and he feels like they are laughing at him. So he has to hide that he is still in love with her. H epretends he is not. Remembering her words Love will find a way.

Why am I the only one to see it??! Maybe because I was or maybe am in that position myself.
The girl is a friend's girlfriend, "all those clowns" are common friends who know me and my friend , and in some cases the girl also.
"Head in hand, turn my face to the wall" --
I'm ashamed that I fell in love with a friend's girl friend.
"If she’s gone I can’t go on
Feelin’ two-foot small" --
However, I really really like her and she is my soulmate!
"Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away "
These are friends of me, my friend , and his girl friend. They know that I like her, and that maybe, maybe - she likes me too, can see the trouble that my love is going to cause, so they say "you've got to hide your love away".
"How could I even try
I can never win
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I’m in"
I am in love with her, but "How can I even try" to get her, she belongs to my friends. Especially after seeing them together, and hearing them together...
"How could she say to me
Love will find a way"
She knows that I like her, and probably likes me too; and she hints that they may not be together for long, and that our "love will find a way". Given the fact that I know that she's still in her relationship, I wonder "how could she say that to me?"
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away"
These guys are the common friends who know that we, or at least I like the girl..
does this make sense? or have I twisted facts to suit my story?
Lemme know.. -
Oh please, honestly. JOHN LENNON WASN'T GAY!
-
The Epstein theory is a possibility but highly uniikly. In the sixties being gay wasn't easy. He would have had to hide his love away. However Brian was more of a great Father figure for John in all the year's as the beatles manager seeing how he never really had a dad. Brian new this and wouldn't break that bond with a crush. nor would he have any intent on damaging the Beatles image. Thogh it did when Brian and John had an vacation together....
-
This song is no doubt about Johns impossible marriage to his first wife Cynthia . They were married in the early stages of Beatlemania and together since high school ( how can she say to me love will find a way ) There was no way for any young love to survive this sort of attention . John was urged by Epstein to cover up his marriage in the early days ( hey you've got to hide your love away )The whole song has to do with his insecurity with the early stages of intense fame and the stain it puy on there relationship .
