Carly Rae Jepsen: Sour Candy Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Sour Candy Lyrics
Coffee stains but where?
Oh I'm so tangled up in my
Big sunglasses and bed hungry second day fare
No we went under, the weight was too much to carry on
I felt the thunder
Mister don't look so scared
I never...

I love this song. I agree that it is about a girl and a guy who just broke up. And that the girl thought that she would be [better off breaking up], but in retrospect, is sad. I think she is sad because she wishes she had tried harder ("I was barely even there"). But I disagree that the guy was happy with break up ("we went under" not "I went under", we reflects joint feelings). This is her side of the story, her feelings, his are kind of unknown. Everybody thinks the guy gets off scot-free (35 years later, I can tell you that is not always true).

I think that this song is about a girl and a guy who just broke up. The girl thought that she would be happy about the break up but it turns out that she liked the guy more than she thought she did and so she ends up sad. The guy thought that he would be happy with the girl but it turns out that all she did was annoy him and so he's glad they broke up.
