Ella Henderson: Ghost Meaning
Song Released: 2014
Ghost Lyrics
'Cause I need something that can wash all the pain
And at most
I'm sleeping all these demons away
But your ghost, the ghost of you
It keeps me awake
My friends had you figured out
Yeah they saw what's...

Quick tip folks, to see the meaning in a song it's best go by the lyrics not the video. They are often nothing to do with each other as here.
This song is simply about ella sleeping around to mask the pain of an old experience. That experience is likely a bad relationship or something much more sinister such as sexual abuse. -
Young guy and the girl are a couple.
Old guy murders girl and dumps body in pool of water.
Young guy is imprisoned.
Old guy isn't.
Young guy escapes.
Old guy is in the girl's motel room.
Young guy runs from police, finding motel room.
He bursts in, finding the old guy.
Song end.
You're welcome. -
I think she is on the brink of an affair with the younger man.It looks like he is pursuing her and she is falling for him. I then think he has arranged to meet her again and he witnesses her husband killing her because he has found out about them. He then panics and being chased by the police runs back to his flat/motel room and finds her husband waiting for him.

What i got from the video... I think the older man killed the girl (killed and left in lake/river) because she regected him so it became the 'if i cant have u no one can' thing so he killed her. And the younger man was her boyfriend and was framed for the murder so he is running from the police then finds the older guy who killed his girlfriend (in the room at end of video)and leaves us thinking does he kill him for revenge or reveal how the older guy was actually the murderer to the police...
-
ok so I have two parts to my interpretation...
The first is that Ella Henderson is narrating the story from the young mans point of view.
The second is that the young man has murdered his girlfriend and is running away from the police. He then runs into an apartment or hotel which the older man is living in. But the older man is the same guy as the younger man only an older version. I then think that the young man lives his life in this apartment hiding from the police. 'I keep going to the river to pray' I think means that he goes back to the river to remember what he did.
hope that made sense!!! :) -
I don't think Ella is part of the story.
I think the bearded man is haunted by the ghost of his girl friend (the dark haired girl). The man in the denim jacket is the younger version of the bearded man. It shows happy times he shared with the brunette girl in the boat, etc - memories which he is now haunted by as an older man.
The video is about him getting over his ex. When he takes the photos from the mirror he is beginning to let go. The scene where he lets her body fall into the water shows him finally getting over her and literally letting go. By the end he is no longer haunted by her 'ghost'.
Saying that, I have no idea how the convict fits into all this... -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think is about her boyfriend changing from good to very evil man who is haunting her.
-
I think what happens is Ella Henderson is narrating what happens and a man takes his girlfriend on holiday to make her feel a false sense of security and then kills her and the man in the motel saw him kill her. Then he runs away and that is the scene in the forest where he is running away from the police who are trying it track him down and then he runs into the motel and into the room where the witness is staying....
-
The songs interprets that Ella is having visions of her boyfriend coming out of prison and getting her as in the beginning the cops are after him and arrest him. when she is awake the visions keep her awake and when she is asleep they go away however his ghost, demons (the visions) keep her awake so she cant sleep them away.
It could also mean that her boyfriend was killed and she has visions of this happening however sleeps them away but his ghost keeps her awake by haunting her and not letting these demon dreams sleep away.
