Emery: What Makes a Man a Man Meaning
What Makes a Man a Man Lyrics
What makes a man a man
And I will step back to the life I left
Maybe you won't forget who I am
Wake up in the middle of the night
Just don't believe everything's all right
When these thoughts are running around...
-
This song is about particularly anyone but in this case a man in whom he regrets evrything he did in his past and he cannot get over it he tried to find a way out tries to repress the emotions and the past and is basically ignorant. He desires to forget everything by floating himself in the ocean and refers the ocean as a she because he sees woman as the sentimental comforter that would ease his pain and make him forget his past. As he finally realizes that he regrets everyday and cannot live regretting what he has done in the past he cannot tolerate the pain anymore and finally has the courage to live up to his mistakes and forgives himself letting go of everything. The title what makes a man a man is not running from your mistakes or repressing them but live up to them and be responsible for them for thats what will make you human learning from your mistakes and your past if you cant find a way out your most likely to be stuck where you are and tolerate the pain. Its all about finding yourself understanding yourself and significantly forgiving yourself.
