Enrique Iglesias: Why Not Me Meaning
Why Not Me Lyrics
My mind is running wild tryin hard not to fall
You told me that you love me but say I’m just a friend
my heart is broken up into pieces
Cos i know i’ll never free my soul
it’s trapped...

#1 top rated interpretation:this song literally connects to my feelings for a certain person. it feels terrible when you see the person you love, love someone else...you still cling on to that person hoping against hope and failing to realize that you will never have him or her.you dream about that person fantasize things that can never happen and the worst part is that you gotta be around that person every time.....its hard to convey those feelings it can just be felt and you sink into the ocean of depression.....

At first listening of this song confusing the line "you told me that you love me but say I'm just a friend " after reading the comments now I'm fully understand. Thank you a lot

It's a person in denial who's using a friendship as a means to put his/her friend in a uncomfortable position.Coming at it from the lyrics he says," we are meant to be... Why not me? ". Obviously, if you were ever meant to be it would have already happened and telling it to this girl or person you're in love with isn't going to make it happen. So stop telling yourself it will or if you had the chance to be their lover they would somewhow truly be happy with you. Not the case and here's why... In my opinion, it's a person who's having self pity and wants to play the victim on this situation. They aren't able to be their crushes ideal lover so instead of trying to better themselves to the best of their abilities or moving on. They rather just moan about how unfair it is to be in their situation when they're doing it to themselves. They want the perfect partner but aren't willing to put the effort in to try to be their ideal partner. I can tell you from experience it's usually from the lack of something why a person may not like you back. Examples of this are being too weak, too emotional, no independence ,no confidence,or lacking individualism. The girl/guy who's his/her friend really cares for him/her by saying I love you, but as a friend. They completely understand his/her feelings towards them, but sadly they just don't feel the same.Hence, why he says that line because they feel stuck. "I Can be all that you need." This guy/girl is being selfish to the point where he/she will force these emotions on their crush (who has made it clear they don't want )and expects to get the same back or deserves to for all the "effort" they put for this person. As He/she tries at any opportunity to prove she/he needs to be with him/her to be truly happy since his/her love is "real". That being who they are now is somehow everything their crush needs. I see this song as a sad pathetic baby Cryer who will rather bitch and moan than try to take some control and grow up. I feel this song was meant for your typical nice guy who expects his deeds to be rewarded rather than just think it's cool you're my friend that's why I do all of this for you. Women also do this by dealing with an asshole guy who you know doesn't want you.

I love this song.It sees right through me. It is like, you love someone but can't tell him/her. You dream about being together, but when you come to your senses it feels terribly
bad to realise that the dream can never be true. There is no other option than letting that person go and you feel alone.
Thank you!Enrique for this song.
