Fitz & the Tantrums: Money Grabber Meaning
Money Grabber Lyrics
This is your pay back, money grabber.
Don't come back anytime, you've already run me dry.
This is your pay back, money grabber.
Teardrops fade.
Then I saw, blue hands in the pocket.
'Cause you...

To Traveling Man, your comment would have been perfect if you'd omitted the Tolkien reference. Still, well done. 5 stars from me.

In addition to the obvious meaning of being fed up with money grubbing users/suits/corporations and selfish lovers...
I think it's a call out to certain elements in the commercial music industry. The style is 100% Motown, once a great force in music that somewhere along the line sold out and faded away, a loss of a rich musical genre that is still being sorely missed in the world.
Now, in a cultural sense, consider what "sound" has taken it's place with particular attention to the ethnicity of the majority of the past artists that dominated the Motown Sound.
I fear a conspiracy of some sort took place somewhere along the line to rob the world of a culturally positive influence in music, a cabal of evil that goes beyond commercial interests at some point and transformed a significant art form into a twisted mass of violence, sexism and larceny.
To borrow from the great story teller JRR Tolkien, it was like the diabolical wizard Sauron had enchanted a race of peaceful, music loving elves and transformed them into bloodthirsty orcs who ravenously feast upon the flesh of the world, loving only filthy lucre and domination of the spirit.
To me this song sounds like a call out, a gauntlet thrown down to challenge the producers of an industry to remember their rich roots, shed the stale snakeskin of cultural hubris and once again return to a time of truth and light and love.
...then again it could just be about somebody pissed off at some greedy whore who and kicking them to the curb where they belong. -
Two-bit ho gets kicked out the do'!!!
