FM Static: Tonight Meaning
Tonight Lyrics
all those drives
we had a million questions all about our lives
and when we got to New York everything felt right
i wish you were here with me
tonight
i remember the days we spent togather
were not...

#1 top rated interpretation:"we had a million questions all about our lives
and when we got to New York everything felt right"
okay first, this song is clearly about a relationship. This relationship starts out somewhere, and it progresses and they move to New York where everything seems quite perfect - a foreshadow of a near tragedy... which leads to the next line,
"i wish you were here with me
tonight ... i can just look up
and know the stars are holding you, holding you, holding you?"
The lyrics can easily be interpreted with the death of the lover, in this case a female (male singer). Often times, the stars are metaphorical for the heavens, and thus she is probably in heaven. However, the song does leave us with the curiosity of how she died, which will soon be answered.
in the next verse, the line, "i remember the car you were last seen in
and the games we would play" hints to the listeners that she died in a car crash. He can remember her car that she was last seen in - she probably got into a fatal accident in the New York traffic.
the chorus emphasizes his pain and uneasiness that he has to go through, knowing the death of his lover, however it cries out a note of positivity by proclaiming that he knows that she is safe in heaven. The song ultimately ends and concludes with a final note that "[he] remember(s) the time [she] sat and told [him] about [her] Jesus
and how not to look back
even if no one believes [them]
when it hurts so bad sometimes not having you here
i sing.."
In conclusion, the singer loses his lover but finds a new love and comfort in the Jesus that she told him about which allows him to be free of the pain and suffering that would normally partake in the death of a lover, knowing that she is safe in heaven. cute love story. -

#3 top rated interpretation:The song is actually about the singer's love dying during the 9/11 accident. What hurts the most is that the 9/11 accident was a week before their initial wedding. The girl just went to the world trade center to get the money from her uncle willingly provided the money for the girl and singer's supposed wedding.
-
It's about the vocalists fiancée who died in the 9-11 attack. She was at the World Trade Center. Getting money for their wedding. When I heard that song I already knew.
-
It's about her gf who died on car crashed accident .

I think this song is about his brother, he moved to NY and his brother stayed back where they use to live. He remembers the good times they both had with each other. His brother who is not in NY wants his brother from NY to come pick him up and misses him, but he knows the stars are holding him back.
-
its about his girl who died in the 9/11 attack, its sad :'''''(
-
The song is about him and his girlfriend meeting up in New York, considering he was in New York. The date was 9/11. She was pronounced a victim and a death of 911. Hence the lyrics " and every night I miss you and I can just look up, and know the stars are holding you, holding you, ...tonight" It's very sad, I hope you guys know it's seriously said because he announced he was going to propose >__< Soo sad. <3

I don't have time to completely break the song down right now, but I do know that this song was written for the lead singer's brother after he died.
