As suggested in the series White Gold, this is a song about an unplanned pregnancy. The imagery in the song is symbolic of a seminal encounter where the withdrawal method didn't work. Modesty prevents being more graphic than that. When I saw the scene in White Gold where Victor Swan takes his family to the woods where his kid was conceived, suddenly the song made sense to me - I couldn't explain the lyric any other way.
