Hootie and the Blowfish: I Go Blind Meaning
Song Released: 1995
I Go Blind Lyrics
-
I believe it's about a man that knows the pains of life to come but goes blind ( doesn't want to see them ) because this person is young and life has not taught them the pains yet.
-
I always thought it was about a man who was so in love with a woman that he was blinded from rational thought or the ability to see anything else but her every time he looked at her.
-
My thoughts on this song,,A somewhat depressed man falls in love with a woman who is upbeat, makes him feel good ,,she's like a drug to him,,makes him feel high,,hence the reference to he wants to get high,,talking to or being around her makes him feel good..PS..A guy sent this song to me.

I think it's a song about a married old man who has an affair with a young girl. He can't take a chance (fall in love) coz he's married and feel more confused. In him there's no hope , no plan or future. He wants to set her free to experience a normal life not being with a married man. But still he can't let go and still wants to be held by her, coz whenever he's with her he feels high and forget everything else. Bfe

This song was written by the Canadian band 54/40. What it means to them is what the sing meas, not how Hootie saw it.
The song is about social injustice and poverty around the world. Worn torn Africa of the 80's and central america. How we are the termoil but still choose not to see it. We go blind when we see the terrors that the world does to itself.
It rings true today at how we look at the problems of our fellow man and go blind when we see it.
Watch the original video of the song, it shows this clearly -
Does he go blind at the sight of this person because of love or hate? That's the only thing that is puzzling to me
-
He masturbates. It's an oldies term for jerkin it.
-
It's about a man struggling with a personality crisis while trying to date someone. He sees and hangs out with her and "goes blind" to all his problems and just foucuses on how good she makes him feel. But he realizes that even love can't save him, he has to create an identity on his own and then be complete; love is only one part of life.
-
War, poverty and children in desperate situations....and how we as a rich nation, dont want to look. Or just watch our TV's and see it, but just go Blind and ignore it.
