Jessie J: Flashlight Meaning
Song Released: 2015
Flashlight Lyrics
I'll be on my own
Feeling frightened of
The things that I don't know
When tomorrow comes
Tomorrow comes
Tomorrow comes
And though the road is long
I look up to the sky
And in the dark I found, lost hope that I won't...

I think the song is really full of emotions. The part ‘ When tomorrow comes, I’ll be on my own, feeling frightened of the things that I don’t know’ explains that she is scared of what will be happening in the future with no one there to help her and support her. The chorus, ‘I got all I need when I got you and and I I got all I need when I got you and I, I look around me, and see a sweet life I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight, you're getting me, getting me through the night, kickstart my heart when you shine it in my eyes, can't lie, it's a sweet life, I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight’ Is talking about a lover, family or friend that was always there for her when she needed help, like a flashlight guiding and supporting her all the way through.

I think this song is about someone in Jessie J's life that is always by her side, someone who is always there for her even in the worst times (the dark). She is saying that they are her flashlight when she is stuck in the dark.

When I wrote this song I wanted to do fun and soul song for the movie cars because it needs to be perfect and ballad song more like it. But it’s little bit closer to that music industry. Me and Ben are gonna play the music together. But obviously I remembered that me and Ben are going to do a band of church because we’re starting a new band. But we’re leading capernaum with bible songs and lots of fun songs on there, like flashlight and treasure, and also your the reason from victorious, this is who we are to be pretend to be as people to be who you are, like writing songs together, Virginia tech wanted to be as who we are, me and Ben wanted to be who we are and where we came from. Because we’re starting to write music with different people.

I think to the song is about the past relationship it had to be a movie it had to be fun.
-
When I started on the song it came from my head and it seems like a ballad for me and the Jonas brothers I wanted to be like fun and catchy song to make it into a graduation song on my record and my friend Ben decided that I should do something with my best friend Ben but he wanted to film it at the stadium where the cheerleaders are and I can be part of them then me and the girls are going to cheerleading with the Hokies, but it’s so much fun. I wanted to be a cheerleader/singer. Because I love cheering.

I feel like this could refer to something divine help guide her during her hardship "I'm not afraid when the rain won't stop
'Cause you light the way". It could also just be a person instead of a divine being. -
I think that this song is about how on the surface, and even to herself, she acknowledges that her life is good "it's a sweet life", but even so, this love of hers (whoever she's singing the song to) brings light into her life. No matter what else is going on, they bring that light.
-
I think this song could mean that even though you have lost someone they will always be your flashlight...
-
You are getting me, getting me through the night
-
She's afriad of loosing someone special. She uses the light to guide herself threw things. She loves someone special. Without the light where would she go?
-
I feel as in this song she says this individual she speaks of helps her even though they may be in the dark they still guide her.
-
Someone so close to her has helped her through everything all the tough times in life and given her hope.
-
Your family is the way home.
