Joan Jett: Crimson And Clover Meaning
Song Released: 1982
Crimson And Clover Lyrics
But I think I can love her
Crimson and Clover
Ahhhh,Now When She comes walking over
Now I've been waiting to show her
Crimson and Clover, over and over
Yeah, My mind is such a sweet thing
I wanna do...

Why must everything be drugs or sex? Why can't a song just be innocent? I think it was just about the way TJ saw things, in color. There are people that see colors and he may be one. Maybe I'm naive, but I like to think it is an innocent song. People used to say Rocky Mountain High was about drugs. Why can't a person just be "high" on nature? Not drugs. Perhaps because few people can experience a "natural" high; they have to use drugs. Sad.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Well if you've seen the movie about the Runaways you'll see that after Cherie goes home after going on their first tour in Europe. Joan talks to her on the phone and tells her to listen to the song when. It came out, if you watch Cherie's face...Yeah I think it has something to do with sex and the love she felt for her...

When Joan nett first appeared in 1975 to create a band the runaway helped by kim fowley she had a friend (cherie churry) who went through a tough time before she cut her hair to and became a wild girl Joan jett and cherie did make out to feel what it means to be gay but they were at a young age cherie was 15 and jett 16 then fowley apparently did unpermitted sex considering they were the first only girl band to get the rough idea what fowley was like and the hole idea of sex drugs rock n roll and violence was about from 1970-1990 the band separated 2 years after 1977 Joan nett carried on the rock life churry is a tree sculpture and a mother sometimes nett and cherry see each other

It was a very easy way for Jett to do a song about a female using a cover song as an excuse. People changed the gender in cover songs a lot of the times when the cover singer was of a different gender.

Never think that when you hear an author of a song, your getting the truth. Example. Tiny Dancer. Its clearly about masturbation. The author says no. If you examine his life and where he was when he wrote the song, he was on the road, courting his future wife. He was waking off. Tiny dancer in his hand, dancing in the sand. What picture do you get? Think about it, be honest. Now if you were the author, would you want to admit that? Not unless your really perverted. Now Joan Jet. A beautiful nice hot girl, when she first sang it, homosexuality wasn't acceptable. There is no wonder why she wouldn't admit that it was about lesbian sex. Think about it. Be honest.
-
I believe she dedicated it to Cherie Currie

It always makes me think of.....well defowering.especially when joan(sooooo hot) sings it.homosexuality wasn't acceptable so much and I think she's thinking of tongue on clover...lips.....oh you work it out.
-
She is probably just singing the same lyrics as the original, no special meaning. Like people who sing karaoke often don't change he to she not because they're gay but because those are the lyrics. Although Joan Jett did make it sound like a lesbian love song.
-
She's talking about a relationship with her girlfriend (She's a lesbian, you know), and how she loves her. I love this song. :)

I, personaly, either watched or or read an interview where joan explains that she plays cover songs, or any songs, so that the fans can interperate it however suits them. And because they fit her. So, there is always the big issue of joan jett sexuallity, she wont give any answers because she wants everyone to think shes singing to them, she doesnt want anyone to be left out. So, there's the possibility that she is singing about a girl and its not just a coincidence because of rhyming. But, again who knows. Tommy just said it popped into his head because crimson was his favorite color and clover was his favorite flower. So, how i interperate it, for both artists, is that it means anything that you love. Joan jett has always talked about how rock and roll is sexual, so im guessing she may be talking about wanting to have sex with a girl, or sex in general, what ever it is she is truly genuine with it, you can see the sexual look in her eyes when you watch it live. Anyways, i really think it stands for anything you really love.
-
I doubt that's it's actually about sex. I just considered it a "love at first sight' thing. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts did a brilliant cover of this.
-
Joan Jett redid this song and I'm pretty sure she dedicated it to Cherie Curie from the Runaways :)

I think she is referring to her relationship with the lead singer of her first band the runaways.
