Josh Turner: Long Black Train Meaning
Long Black Train Lyrics
Comin' down the line
Feedin' off of souls that are lost and cryin'
Rails of sin, only evil remains.
Watch out, brother, for that long black train.
Look to the heavens, you can look to the sky.
You can find...

#1 top rated interpretation:long black train = fun filled life but unholy life.
its final stop = hell.
The rails the train rides on = Sin.
the engineer in it = devil.
your ticket burning = you being saved.
saying let me ride on it = giving in to sin. -
Don't get your ticket too soon

My interpretation of this song is, and always has been, that it is about suicidal ideation, and about how if we trust in God, and turn away from Satan (the train’s engineer) we will ultimately choose life over death. Having continually dealt with thoughts of suicide since age 10 or so, this song has been one of a number of things that has helped me to keep going.

the many times that i have listened to this song, i have thought the same thing everytime. this song has a big hit in a little punch, this has a deep meaning to and has a very positive meaning to it, and i think a lot of people can get alot out of listing to this song. it makes you stop and think how easy it would be to stop and think on how making one little step could change your future. josh also makes known that you can look to the heavens, youll find redemption lokkin back into ur life. that has a strong meaning to it that gives everyone chills...

When I hear this song all I think about is the suicidal meaning of it. The song is very powerful.

i loved this song the first time i heard it. my grandpa had told me about it and i saw it on cmt. it is absolutely beautiful and so true. trust God in everything you do and everything will be ok.
It took me a while to figure out what this song meant but when it did I thought that it was a beautiful song. If we trust in the Lord everthing will be fine.
This song is also about suicide and how you should always trust in the Lord and he will help you through it.
