Machine Head: Halo Meaning
Halo Lyrics
Will you stand beside me?
This is our time to fight
No more compromising
And this blackened heart will sing
For sad solidarity
Halo over my demise
Following a god so blind
Sallow in their sickening
Swallow not...
-
This song is an analogy for ignorance and stupidity. In this case, they use the highly controversial topic of religion. The singer, Robb Flynn, states "Halo over our demise" meaning that in his eyes, something foreshadows our doom. He clarifies by adding, "Following a God so blind," saying that it's religion that will lead us to said doom. It's the lack to see the entire importance of the big picture that is in a great sum of people which means that we will fall. Religion is just a pawn used to express his view and way of life. His goal in this was to show that if we focus on beliefs rather than facts, then we will be pushed back centuries of years in developments that could help us.
