Metallica: Fuel Meaning
Song Released: 1998
Fuel Lyrics
Gimme that which I desire
Turn on, I see red
Adrenaline crash and crack my head
Nitro junkie, paint me dead
And I see red
One hundred plus through black and white
War horse, warhead
Fuck 'em, man, white-knuckle...

I think I read somewhere that this song is about going fast in cars. He wrote about cars because while he was struggling with alcohol, he took an interest in cars to occupy himself.
-
James and the rest of the band love their cars and going fast. It also is like a biography of the band how they lived life on the edge and when in the song a junkie dies I think it's for remembrance of Cliff Burton R.I.P. Sept 27 1986

It's clearly about street racing
-
It's about both heroine use and racing.

How the hell you can be so brutally stupid? What DRUGS? What ALCOHOLISM?... James is obviously like others said inspired with cars and in this song with a fuel too, so he put himself in this song like he is an engine and putting in him a human feelings to describe us how engine is alive, like a human too, which is thirsty for fuel
-
This song could be about drug use, especially alcoholism, a problem for James who wrote this song.
But I think, it's about the thrill of fast driving and street racing, because it's about James's love of cars and fast driving. and the fact that his love of cars became a substitute for his love of drugs and alcohol. -
My interpretation is similar to one above that talks about going fast, speed, and whatnot. I don't think the song is necessarily about speed as much as it is about the rush for fire and energy and adrenaline.
-
Its about how people throw their lives away by driving fast and unsafe
-
It is definately about drugs. "Take the corner join the crash" signifies turning the corner into doing the drugs and joining all the other people who do it. "white knuckle tight" signifies when someone is clenching their fist making their knuckle go white when they use heroin. They also need fuel (drugs) for their fire (addiction) hence "give me fuel give me fire give me that which I desire". also "quench my thirst with gasoline" signifies taking drugs ang getting your fix.
