Mother Mother: Oh Ana Meaning
Oh Ana Lyrics
I'll be God
I'll be God
I'll be God, today
Hold my head under the bath and breathe away
Slit my wrists and watch that blood evaporate
Being this Godly can't be good for Ana's safety, Ana hear me
I'll play God
I'll play...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song is about anorexia (ana) and the god references are about wanting to be in full control of your body

#2 top rated interpretation:This song is about a young woman named Ana, who has a god complex. She takes pleasure in helping others and finds stability in being in control. Although she has good intentions, Ana finds herself slipping further and further down the path, going from an over-achieving girl to a cold woman who views herself as superior to everyone else. This is how she “plays god”. She knows how to manipulate people in her life into believing that she is their savior, which fuels her self validation. Ana takes comfort in being called out for, in being needed. The song is told from two perspectives, Ana, and one of the people she has manipulated. The repeated refrains of “I’ll, be/play god” are Ana, and the calls of “Ana save me” and the chorus are meant to be one of her victims. It seems to be implied that Ana becomes overwhelmed by the idea of herself that she has created, and kills herself out of stress,
slitting her wrists. Alternatively, instead of that, Ana’s words, though unintentional, have caused those affected to bring themselves to suicide, again slitting their wrists. -

#3 top rated interpretation:This song, as I see it, is about a suicidal person, and "Ana" is the last shred of their soul who wants them to keep living.

Oh Ana, I believe is about a young woman who can’t let go. Who is going through something. She wants to leave/die/escape but she knows she cannot. As an Ana, also a young lady, I listen to this song whenever I go through an issue in my life. Because of that I interpret the song differently. The part where the singer says like “ friend of a friend“ means to me that you can’t be friends of yourself but your friend is friends with you. So you are the friend of a friend.

i believe this song is about a suicidal person, who has SOMEONE in their life (ana) who they dont want to leave, but they also want to kill themselves. also the mentions of god throughout the song could be an insane religious person, the narrator?

I think this song was written to have a meaning where anyone could have their personal meaning, such as suicidal thoughts or anorexia. To me, this song states my jealousy of not being the most important friend to someone. Ana is my friend’s friend, the angel I couldn’t kill.
-
i think its about a suicide teen with shitty parents and that they cant let ana there sister be with there parents so that he's deciding if he should kill her then kill him self or leave her and he dies

While I think all the other interpretations of this song are probably true, the way I interpret it is that a overly religious parent is going insane and is contemplating suicide but doesn’t want to leave their daughter (Ana). So the song is the thought process of the parent deciding if they want to live with Ana or die and take Ana with them. I believe in the parent daughter relationship because of the lines calling Ana a angel (like parents pretty commonly do), lines about referencing Ana riding on their shoulder, and on top of that a general over reliance on Ana to bring the parent happiness. The next part is a bit of a stretch but I also think the lines referencing playing god in a poker game could be another moral dilemma since even if the parent kills Ana they might not end up in the same place. This would require the parent to take a chance and gamble with god by killing Ana in a way that would “Fake” out god. I mainly believe in this part because it brings a context to the otherwise very random and unclear line “I’ll fake God”.

i think the song is about someone who wants to commit suicide. they suffer from anorexia and are depressed and suffering and self harming and have suicidal thoughts and they want to drown themself/slit their wrists. "ana" short for anorexia is the angel they couldn't kill. "i'll be God" is wanting to be dead and references to suicide and anorexia and angels and God. It's about mental health struggles/mental illness mainly anorexia also suicide and self destructive behavior and slightly about self harm and basically everything that comes with anorexia mostly. talks about playing God and faking God i'm not entirely sure what that means. "ana is the angel i couldn't kill" person couldnt get over anorexia. ana could also be a person though.

Since there isn't a real meaning to this song I'll just say what it means to me. Basically, this person wants to commit suicide and the references to god is basically the protagonist wanting to be free of their vessel which is their body, faking god is the protagonist's thought of becoming God after commiting suicide. Ana could be a therapist/lover or someone that was helping the protagonist. 'hop on the could and watch the world decay' is basically the protagonist watching the world decay into a rot becoming more disgusting each day, 'Oh ana you are the angel that I couldn't kill.' to me is the protagonist having intrusive thoughts of ending Ana but unable to because the protagonist cares about them, 'Ill be with you still' implying that the protagonist will still be with Ana even after death.

I do not know very well if what I say has logic, but from what I see the song can talk about abortion, a first time father. I know it may seem silly but imagine it: a young man finds out that his girlfriend is pregnant, but he is not ready to be a father yet, this could explain the first lines: "Hold my head under that bath and breathe away. Slit my wrists and watch that blood evaporate" When he found out that his girlfriend was pregnant, he tried to commit suicide to escape from that "problem" I already had it in mind, I just needed something else to do it and this was it. Feeling not ready to have a baby and knowing that her suicide attempts were bad influences on the baby would bring into the world, he must make the decision whether to have the baby, which in this case would be Ana, or not to have it, with that he refers to "I'll fake God, I'll fake God today" because he would decide between to bring or not to bring Ana to life, like a god, that is why he also says "Faking this god it can't be good for Ana's safety" at the end he decides to give Ana the opportunity to live, that is, to have the baby, that is why he says "You are the angel that I couldn't kill".

I agree with the lyrics as a (trying to get started) recovering anorexic. the struggles are presented in the song, 'ana' perhaps being reffered to as an angel because some anorexics believe it is a savior from their bad body image, and 'i couldn't kill ana' suggests that they knew they had to kill ana, but could not, similiar to knowing you are not healthy and need to stop, but are unable to.

This song with the first part "I'll be God I'll be God I'll be God I'll be God, today
Hold my head under the bath and breathe away
Slit my wrists and watch that blood evaporate
Being this Godly can't be good for Ana's safety, Ana hear me" Is most definitely talking about suicide. "Ana"is probably meaning Anorexia, people with Anorexia sometimes call It Ana. This song could be talking About the ED not a little girl. Killing Ana would be meaning to recover, but trying to recover is a hard thing so "No, I couldn't kill, ana" Would mean having struggles with recovery.

The song mentions “god” a lot. I think this song maybe has a religious meaning? It’s also Ana being an angel.. and “hop on a cloud” maybe dying or someone in this band siblings/loved one died? Depression, suicide? “slit my wrists”?..
yeah I don’t really know about this song but it definitely has a meaning to their lyrics..
