New Politics: Dignity Meaning
Dignity Lyrics
Never feel no guilt,
You make your money selling guns on the playground.
I'm so ashamed,
Cause we're all the same,
Killing in the name money is the game now.
And you're buying bombs,
And we pay the price,
Eat your lies and...

People everyday are lead to believe something And we think that we are given all the facts so we make no effort to find out anything for ourselves, most of the time we think we know everything. Our minds are controlled by the government and the media. The ice cream in the music video is the information and the icecream man is the media and government. The adults all enjoy it but the kids realise that it is no good and rebel against the icecream man because they want something 'real'. They want something that is true and they can follow with a clear conscience. They want something that will have them their dignity.
Sorry if this didn't make sense.
Dictionary meaning:
Dignity- the state of being worthy of honour or respect.
A composed or serious manner or style. -
The song Dignity by New Politics is about how the government and the media control society for their own benefit. They bribe and manipulate us with material things so that we fall for the lies behind their advertisements. This is why we have no dignity, because we have no choice but to go along with the government’s plans and do everything they want us to do without even noticing. For example, they use our money indirectly to buy weapons for war, meaning that they are also responsible for violence in the world. In the song, it says that we have no control of the state of our minds because society is being corrupted more and more each day by the government. Corruption has lead to many things around the world including: greed, hatred, ignorance, and jealousy. The song also mentions that kids shouldn’t listen to their parents because the majority of the adults today are already “brainwashed” by the media. Our future depends on the children, the next generation, because they are the ones who can see our reality, change everything, and break free of the government’s control.
