Nirvana: Polly Meaning

Album cover for Polly album cover

Polly Lyrics

Polly wants a cracker
Think I should get off her first
Think she wants some water
To put out my blow torch

Isn't me... Have a seed
Let me clip... dirty wings
Let me take a ride... cut yourself
Want some help... please myself
I got some...

Alright, this is a song Kurt wrote after he read a newspaper where the headlining story was about a man named Gerald Friend who abducted a girl after a concert in Tacoma. The man brought her back to his trailer where he tied her up and tortured her repeatedly with a whip, razor, and blow torch as well as raping her.
"Think I should get off her first"-tells the listener that he had raped her non stop.
"Think she wants some water"-tells of how he gave her little if not any water at all. as well as how she wanted to stop him from using the torch("To put out the blow torch").
"Maybe she would like more food"-tells the listener that he pretty much starved her.
"She caught me off my guard
Amazes me, the will of instinct"-shows how the girl escaped when she caught him off guard. She supposedly pretended that she fell in love with him, and when he let his guard down and untied her, she escaped and warned the authorities. this was the part that inspired Kurt most and that is why he wrote the song.

The whole song is spoken from the the kidnapper's point of view.

"Polly said..." was added when Kurt sang to early during recording, they just decided to keep it in.

you must be a bunch of dumbshits

this wasn't about the rape of polly klaas
that was in '93 nevermind, along with polly [the song]were released previously in '91.

polly was written about a girl 14 years old coming out of a gig, kidnapped by gerald friend. He tied her up in his mobile home [upside down] and raped / tortured her with a leather whip, razor, blow torch and hot wax, she gained his trust by saying the torture was boring her and such lies [ which would have been exetremely hard to do assfucks ] and while he stopped for gas she got out of the vehicle and made a scene attracting attention from surrounding people friend was arrested and rape me is believed as a polly hitback which Kurt says is just 'poetic justice' about a man who rapes a girl and goes to jail and while there he gets raped.

any more question shitheads you can't get anything right stop trying

    p.s.

    IS NOT ABOUT POLLY KLAAS

    &&

GOOGLE SEARCH COMES UP TO VERY LITTLE ANSWERS

stop making shit up it isn't funny it's serious stuff dumbasses IT'S RAPE

I don't think you guys should use this site like a chat room...

Anyway, this song is about a 14 year-old girl named Polly from Tacoma, Washington, who was returning from a concert in 1987, when a man named Gerald Friend abducted her and kidnapped her. He took her to his mobile home and raped her, then tortured her with a blowtorch, a whip, and a razor. Then he took her for a drive in his car, and when he stopped for gas, she escaped and reported him. Then I guess Kurt heard about it and wrote this song. All the lyrics describe what happened.

There are aspects of this song to my very open mind & unique perception of this song that to me speak of struggle, getting high & why (wants a cracker...water... my back really f*ING hurts... Untie me... I get that was not how it was intended, but it speaks to me & touches me on a profound spiritual level at the core of my base struggle with pain & needing to be released. I love the music & Kurt's soul.

The song is a sham conspiracy.no rape ever occurred.the 14 yr. was "on the stroll" and would do anything for a "hit".Polly wanted a cracker (crack). The both of them a match made in heaven.

The song isn't about a girl called Polly. It seems Kurt just chose that because he was comparing a kidnapping rapist view of his victim to someone keeping a pet, in this case a parrot.

It seems there was a rumour that the 14 year old victim of rape and torture that included use of a blow torch, feigned boredom to trick her captor. A rumour that isn't really substantiated. "Let me take a ride" and "she caught me off my guard" refers to the fact he decided to take a ride with her all tied up and stopped for gas. He didn't think to lock the door and she was able to roll out of the car and into the gas station. He drove off to try and escape but was caught the next day.

Also let me take a ride...she escaped during a ride. He had her on the floor tied up but he got out to put gas in the car and didn't lock the door and she wriggled out so people saw her fall out so he drove off to escape in his car but was picked up the next day. And yeah he used a blow torch and a razor to cut her. :-( And his last name was friend hence "rape me my friend" in Rape Me.

Once you've read the story of Gerald Friend both Polly and Rape Me are utterly explained. Except for the people too dumb to get that Polly is just because the kidnapper and rapist is treating the victim kind of like a pet at his mercy. Polly is from the rapist's point of view. The Rape Me is from the victim's point of view because people didn't get Polly he said he'd be more blunt. "My friend" the guy's name was Friend. And obviously "I'm not the only one" is about the fact that the police let out Friend after he raped and tortured the 12 year old girl so the 14 year old sued the police.

To Kurt this song was, probably, about a girl who got raped. To others it may mean that, or it can mean something else. That is the beauty in music, song meaning is what you think it is about. Especially in Nirvana songs you can't trap yourself in thinking what the writer had in mind. You have to think what it meant to you, and there is not only one solution, it can have infinite meanings.

The two sick men who raped a girl, did not sing the song polly, they did it at a concert while kurt sang polly. the song however, is not about polly klaas.
