Rise Against: Drones Meaning
Drones Lyrics
Voices die to be heard
Years we spent teaching a lesson
We ourselves had never learned
And if strength is born from heartbreak
Then mountains I could move
And if walls could speak I'd pray
That they...
-
"Deep inside thwlese burning buildings voices die to be heard." - Here in this world that is amid so much chaos, people are hurting and struggling (burning buildings). They cry out for help and/or change.
"Years we spent teaching a lesson we ourselves have never learned" -The indifference of mankind has people teaching future generations how to cope with the struggle or survive it altogether. But the teachers themselves haven't been done a great job at it.
"And if strength is born from heartbreak, then mountains I could move." -I have put so much faith in humanity that it kills me to see the evil in people. I get let down every time.
"If walls could speak, I pray that they would tell me what to do" -I talk to everyone and myself mostly so much, I might as well be talking to a wall. I wish the wall could tell me something.
I feel the chorus hints at how people try to care about other people struggles but cant because they have to take care of their self. And it is because we don't live in a perfect world that I can't be worry free. So I have to keep doing what I need to to make it in life.
"No signs of life here, save the embers. The occasional flame. We'd know the way but can't remember. Conception to the grave. Shout confessions from the greatest heights where no ine can hear. All my fears, my insecurities, are falling like tears" -The ones with the power to do something about all this bullcrap, passes off the less fortunate as degenerates and condemning them without understanding their hardships. And they dont care at all.
"The drones all slave away, they're working overtime, They serve a faceless queen, they never question why. Disciples of a God, that neither lives nor breathes, (I won't come back!) But we have bills to pay, yeah we have mouths to feed! (I won't come back!)
I won't come back!" -We all carry on with life because we have little or no choice to do anything about it. -
Does this remind anyone else of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury?
After I read that book for English class in tenth grade, I saw a great deal of similarities to F 451.
I think the first verse is pretty obvious how it could tie into F 451.
"And if strength is born from heartbreak, then mountains I could move"--This reminds me of Professor Faber
"And if walls could speak, I'd pray that the would tell me what to do"--the television walls and the walls of the buildings Montag burns
"If you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by. Forget my name and I'll forget it too. Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives, are what keep me coming back to you."--This also makes me think of the way that Professor Faber must live in fear because he loves books, and the way that Faber and Montag's resistance of blindly going along with society bring them together.
"No signs of life here, save the embers, the occasional flame. We know the way, but can't remember, conception to the grave."--The firemen (and the rest of society) know how life should be lived, but they have been brainwashed.
"Shout confessions from the greatest heights where no one can hear. All my fears, my insecurities, are falling like tears."--Professor Faber's lifestyle again and Montag's nervousness about the books he has, his friendship with Professor Faber, etc.
"The drones all slave away. They're working overtime. They serve a faceless queen. They never question why. Disciples of a god that neither lives nor breathes. But we have bills to pay, yeah we have mouths to feed!"--This perfectly sums up the mindlessness of society in Fahrenheit 451.
The "I won't come back!" part is akin to Montag's separation from the rest of the firemen. -
"Deep inside these burning buildings
Voices die to be heard
Years we spent teaching a lesson
We ourselves had never learned"
There is no enough freedom to speak about government, about lifestyle. In previous ages we were slaves with chains on our hands, but now we are slaves of our lifestyle. We need to care about too many things, we all must fight to survive in this world.
"And if strength is born from heartbreak
Then mountains I could move
And if walls could speak I'd pray
That they would tell me what to do"
Not all people are living well. Some of them are lost in their lifes. They works very hard.
"If you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by.
Forget my name and I'll forget it too.
Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives
Are what keep me coming back to you."
The life in current age is not easy. All what he need is just a simple life without need to work hard, carry about your family have what to eat, all banks' credits, taxes, obligations.
"No signs of life here, save the embers, the occasional flame,
We'd know the way but can't remember, conception to the grave,
Shout confessions from the greatest heights, where no one can hear,
All my fears, my insecurities are falling like tears."
The situation is not going in positive way.
We trusted but, politicians disappointed us.
"The drones all slave away, they're working overtime,
They serve a faceless queen, they never question why.
Disciples of a God, that neither lives nor breathes, (I won't come back!)
But we have bills to pay, yeah we have mouths to feed! (I won't come back!)
I won't come back!"
All workers are working very hard, they dont know why, dont know how to get on better. They are ignoring facts, they are poor. But he still dont know how to change to better, so he wants to give up but its hard decision that he cant made - there are bills to pay and mouths to feed.
"I'm coming back to you"
Can't win, we all are addicted to this.
