Savage Garden - To the Moon and Back Meaning
Song Released: 1996
To the Moon and Back Lyrics
To justify all the hurt inside
Guess she knows from the smiles and the look in their eyes
Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one
They're saying
Mama never loved her much
And daddy never...

the obvious one: it can be a about a guy trying to get a girl that is so hurt she shuts everyone out...but Darren puts a few clues in here pointing in a different direction too, and he's the girl in this interpretation.
there is something that can take away all that pain, something that takes him into "outer-space". Drugs. That's his baby, the one that fly's him to the moon and back, to that the world where he feels he belongs.
Love is too hard, friends drop you, he can't bear it all, he doesn't have a map for life, but he can have a pleasant dream, he can can go fly to the moon and back with his baby. Due to the empathic nature of the them, my guess is his baby is called MDMA.
