Social Distortion: Writing on the Wall Meaning
Writing on the Wall Lyrics
You looked up to me with big eyes...
And i could do no wrong
Theres something inside, thats clearly tearing
Both of us apart
Ooh ooh theres something inside
I wonder where you are tonight
And what you...

When artists write songs, they do have a meaning behind it. But it's for the listener to interpret it as how they hear it. Some are saying he wrote the song for his son. He very may well have. but the beauty of music is we can all hear the same sounds and it can mean so many different things to everyone listening. When an artist such as Mike Ness can write something and make us feel what we need to feel about it, they have succeeded as poet. When I heard this song, not only did it hit home for me, but made me feel not so alone. when he says " they say if you love someone you gotta let them go, if they come back that's surly how you know" why would he say that about his son? Idk just saying, everyone interprets songs differently either way it's an amazing song

I interpret this as a pure love to a woman but is very afraid for what the woman really wants... So hard to decide...

I think its about his son falling into the same addictions hes had. But he feels a very strong connection with him still.

It's a beautiful song about a father & son. When a boy becomes a teenager, his father is no longer his role model, and Mike wants to show his love but doesn't know how ... it is difficult to at this stage in a boy's life. "And if they return to you" means that once the boy becomes a man, he will once again realize he loves his father and become close again as adults. "That's surely how you'll know" if the boy loves you back. You won't know until he grows up.

This song is a song Mike Ness wrote about his relationship with his teenage son. It's a very touching song about a father and son growing apart from each other as the boy grows into a man.

Sounds alot like my life. Both people in the relationship love each other very much, but they are hurt somehow buy each other. They finally break apart. One moves on but the other sstill feels the love. He can't move on. Its tearing him apart. If its meant she will move back and he will wait.
