Streetlight Manifesto: Point / Counterpoint Meaning
Point / Counterpoint Lyrics
My finger's on the trigger but that trigger seems locked

I agree with most of what you said, except I don't think he was actually shot. I think it was an metaphor. My reasoning for this is because " I can't stop starring at the tic toc clock " before sayinghe has a "bullet in his lung" indicating that some time is passing.
Finally I like to add that Streetlight Manifesto had never explain what the song really means and the lead singer said before he likes how everyone interprets it differently. -

This is one of the best Streetlight songs, and it really tells a story. It starts with the singer who wants to commit suicide, and a girl is trying to talk him out of it. Before committing suicide, something (I believe an assault)happens to the singer that gives him a new hope and meaning for life.
Then, the tables turn and now the girl who talked him out of suicide wants to commit it herself. You can see this change from the line "There was a kid who never cared about the little things" to "There was a chick who never cared about the little things". The end verse ("So I waited by the phone...") shows that she didn't kill herself.
