A Decade Under the Influence Lyrics

Well, SAD, SMALL, sweet, so delicate
It used to be this dying breed
Well I've got a bad feeling about this
I've got a bad feeling about this

You kept still until the long drive home
And slept safe and close to the window...
Well, I've got...

well the first on about the break up was good, and the second on star wars was interesting, but this is what adam said he wrote it about. he said it was about the most akward car ride he was ever on. it was a car ride to a coldplay concert (one of his favorite bands), with his ex girlfriend. they had broken up before the concert and he still had tickets, so she still wanted to go. so she did and he said the band played good, but the car ride was extremely akward. so he wrote a song, and surprising a song. if you look at the lyrics, it makes sense, and if you don't believe me go to youtube where I saw it. thnx for reding. oh and tbs and the song both are awsome! I give them both 5 stars! rock on!

Its about an ex girlfriend and boyfriend having an awkward car ride home from a concert together. Adam explained it in an interview.

This song reminds me of an awkward car ride with someone that no longer cares as much about the relationship and the "bad feeling" that it's not going to last. He/she may rather be with their other friends, but "to hell" with them, that perhaps "anyone will do tonight" so we'll just "settle... Settle". "My worst" my low expectations for the night/the ride do "bring out the best in you" and makes the awkwardness somewhat bearable.

Might sound strange, but when I hear this song, I always think of a person who really loves their sort of fragile girlfriend, but is sure that she's going to die. They feel bad because they're depressed and it's bringing out the full affect of how sweet she is, but they're actually thinking about getting a new girlfriend when she's gone.

I think your interpretations are good "anonymous", but they don't really work. Because, you break the song into sections & they all have different meanings. So you don't really know what the song is actually about.
Just thought id let you know. :]

It's talking about every decade the drugs, alcohol and sex get worse so the influence is getting stronger and this decade is under the influence of watever each person's influence is.

I may be crazy, but this song sounds like it's about Star Wars (Episode II).

    1. "A Decade Under the Influence."
-Anakin was in love with Padme for 10 years after he met her.

    2. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
-Anakin says this line in the movie.

3."...my worst brings out the best in you"
    -Anakin turns evil.

    any other thoughts?

well, to me there's either two different things he means.
    1. He's pretty desprate(might have just broken up with someone) and he's looking for love he misses, "anyone will do tonight"
any girl is looking good to him because he just wants someone else to take his mind off the other chick.
"my worst brings out the best in you" meaning his despreteness is making the girl feel wanted cause he's acting like she means the world to him.

    2. probaably not right but its kinda like..2 people started going out and he's really nervous cause she's intimidating and now there probabaly goina go screw at his house.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
