The Association: Windy Meaning
Song Released: 1967
Windy Lyrics
Calling a name that's lighter than air
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it's Windy
Who's tripping down the streets of the city
Smiling at everybody she sees
Who's reaching out...

My parents named me Wendy five years before this song came out.
As an adult, this made my life hell, from introducing myself to job interviews. It’s always been “You know that song…”
Lately someone giggled & said “Breaking Bad” (I had to Google)
OMG! I wish Every song that had a person’s name in it could be Cancelled. This really is harassment. -
I think it is about a guy who is a photographer in Chicago. He takes photos of random people as they go about their day. When he takes a moment to visit with someone, everyone always talks about how windy it is in Chicago. *the windy city* It seems funny that all these people walking the streets of the city can only find conversation about the weather.

I heard this song at Indiana University in Bloomington when they first sang it. It was, for then, the subtle meaning of what she was and did. In the Midwest this was an outrage for such innocent times. Fond memories in many ways. Was not as lucky as they were. In Palm Springs, CA, only wind I get is natures and patio furniture can get blown away too.

This song is about free love, a friend, drugs, or prostitution to me. One of the catchiest songs I have ever heard. No, folks, I did not first hear it on Breaking Bad. I heard it on the radio as a small child.
-
I took the meaning of the song about the wind and weather related conditions too, but can see the drug relation as well. Prefer the wind though as it is more calming of the version to me and realistic in my life. I can also see the meaning to be a beautiful innocent woman exploring life.

Song is used in Breaking Bad showing a girl hooked on Meth doing anything to get the money so she can buy more. She dies in a overdose eventually
-
I always assumed it was about a girl with that name but looking at the lyrics it appears to be talking about the wind as if it had a personality. Very creative.
-
I heard that windy is about a girl who went out with one of the association guys and her name is Wanda.

According to one of the founding members of the Association (who did not write the song), the song was about a friend of the author (Ruthann Friedmann) who was a meth addict and had served time in prison. While there is at least one article where Friedmann contends the character in the song is purely fictional, the Association member stands by his claim and explains Friedmann told him the meaning back when the band recorded it.

When I heard the song Windy in 1967, I changed the hit by mentally thinking of my 4th cousin. Her name was Wendie. Will not quote last names. I had a great crush on her in my tail end of my teens. I tried to get the LP. Could not find. To this day, in 2013, I still like this Hit Song. I still like The Association. I also like the song Cherish.
