Toto: I'll Be Over You Meaning

Album cover for I'll Be Over You album cover

Song Released: 1986

I'll Be Over You Lyrics

Are you gonna help me sing?
Some people live their dreams
Some people close their eyes
Some people's destiny
Passes by
There are no guarantees
There are no alibis
That's how our love must be
Don't ask why
It takes some time
God knows...

This song means there are a couple; one in a relationship with someone else the other single and its obvious they have chemistry. They try getting together but emotions get in the way. The one stays with their original and the other walks away and moves on, but there's one caveat; She means so much to him that he will always have a part of him that will never get over her (or vice-versa). Happens every day my friends.

My husband of 33 years passed away Sept 2023.
We dated for a short period of time back in the 80's. Shortly after we stopped seeing one another this song came out.
I listened to it every day for a long time.
After 3 years of not seeing one another, we met and were together almost every day since.
He was the love of my life for about 38 years.
This song has had a special meaning for a long time.

Reminds me of my friend who I fell in love with while I'm in a 8-year relationship. I'm still wondering of her everyday and how is she doing. We talk occasionally but in discreet. Forcing yourself trying to forget someone makes it even harder to move on. One day you may think you're okay and you're ready to forget, but the next day you will find yourself thinking about her again and I think I will never forget her. "Promises We once made".

It draws me into tears and keeps me holding on to my so beloved daughter who doesn't want or can't see me anymore, since 3,5 years, after my divorce of her mother. Parental alienation is a crime for children and the neglected parent.

I can't write an interpration, as it is simply something that happened to me. In the past while in college, I met a young woman, she was younger than me, even so I fell in love with her at first sight. Over time I moved on to university and pushed ahead in my degrees. We talked on occasion. She became involved with some one and we drifted apart. Still I think of her every day. I don't think I will ever forget her, nor ever be out of love with her. This songs has always had a profound effect on me. Especially the lyric "As soon as forever is though". I think I will love her until the end of time.

The meaning it holds for me is about the loss of my brother...I'll never get over it or the loss of him...Soon as Forever is through, I'll get over you...Miss you always

Trying to forget someone who had become special in her life. Moving on is hard to do but life must go on. Someday all the memories will fade and forget them all when the time she'll get over to the one she's loving!
