Tove Lo: Stay High Meaning
Song Released: 2014
Stay High Lyrics
Where the fun,it got no end
Staying in my play pretend
Where the fun,it got no end
Staying in my play pretend
Where the fun,it got no end
Ohhh
Can't go home alone again
Need someone to numb the pain
Can't go...
-
When I listened to this song it sounded like it was about a girl who's lover left her and she was so heartbroken she got on drugs and alcohol
-
"Binging on my twinkies, throw up in my bathtub" means she has bulimia.
-
It binge on twinkies not "vingeon" as in eat too many... then throw up in the tub... make sense now?
-
I believe that she is trying to find alternatives to help her get over a break up or someone leaving her life, and to help her cope with the pain to keep someone who she cared about off her mind.
-
She loves porn but her parents found out so she takes drugs now

I think it's the story of the bad habits we go through after a break up. She seems to go through everything that a partier would, but as seen in the video, she's crying. It seems to show that she's miserable, and is trying to do whatever possible to make the pain of remembering vanish.
-
Can I just ask where you got that whoever the song is about passed away? Maybe she's not trying to get them back because they left her for someone else. Just a thought.
-
I read that she said she wrote this during a break up. I too thought it was about someone dying, but she said it's about the pain of losing someone after a break up.

I agree with your interpretation except for the child part. She doesn't say anything about a playground. She says she is staying at her play pretend, which I think is how she calls her world of behaving like she is having fun at parties but is actually suffering inside. I do think the person she lost is dead, otherwise she'd be trying to get them back since she is clearly in pieces. In the video with the remix you only get a hint that she's sad. But in the normal version you can really get the whole picture of how depressed she is.
And by the way, her deceased lover might be a guy or girl since she is clearly bi in the video hahaha -
