Uncle Kracker: Follow Me Meaning
Follow Me Lyrics
You don't know why
You can't turn around and say goodbye
All you know is when I'm with you
I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea
I'm singin'
[CHORUS]
Follow me everything is...

#1 top rated interpretation:Holy Sh***
I hadn’t heard this song in years and just thought about it so I downloaded it....thirty seconds in someone out of no where punched me in the gut as hard as I’ve ever felt.
I am 5 weeks sober and yes, I am a Heroin Addict. I always thought this was just a guy singing to his girl, but as I was singing the words I....I mean I’m on my way to a meeting.
That’s heroin folks. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song is about addiction. It could be the addiction talking to the addict. when I listen to this song I am reminded of what active addiction felt like. I really like this song good reminder of where I never want to be again.

#3 top rated interpretation:Its a fact........Uncle Cracker had said in an interview this song is about heroin addiction. Its like heroin is singing the song to the addict.

For us straight folks it is about relationships. Although the artist explains his meaning, we can't wrap our minds around the addiction meaning. Is that ok with y'all? Sheesh. It's like a painting, people see different things...

From an interview with the artist;
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Follow_Me_(Uncle_Kracker_song)
"[W]hen we first started recording that song, with us being from Detroit, that song was supposed to be this doo-wop/Motown song — something different, because every song's got its own little twist. And this song was supposed to have that, but after we recorded it, I was like, 'Man, that could be something for radio,' so we switched it back. [The song] takes on a couple of different meanings. I've heard some people think that I'm talking about drugs, or some people think I'm talking about cheating. I guess it's kinda both. I would never want to say anything that would get myself in trouble, being married with a couple of kids. That song is like a dirty picture painted with a pretty brush."
IE - if you want it to be about cheating, it's about cheating. If you want it to be about drugs, it's about drugs. -
This song is most definitely about addiction. The heroin is talking to the user, anyone whos been through addiction will understand this.
-
If you've ever had an affair and are truly in tune with your emotions and sexuality the phrase " run thru your veins" can be about the sensual feelings you encounter during your relationship. It can be that intense! The lovemaking and touching and feeling is like no other
-
Sorry, but the song is about adultery, about him banging another man's wife. Why? He's not scared by the ring she wears. Heorin doesn't wear a ring.
-
Aside from the fact THE ARTIST SAID it was about heroin addiction if you know anything about heroin then you know that's what this song about. Read the lyrics... that being said I've gone to school for and worked as an addiction counselor and I can tell you that this song is about heroin talking to the user.... "if you want to leave I can guarantee you wont find no body else quite like me" " swim through you veins like a fish in the sea" definitely about slamming heroin

This song along with video made me feel as if me was really music. Every senario showed that person frustrated or in destress and to simply turn up the music had a positive impact on the situtaion. Follow music everything is alright, let music be the one to tuck you in at night. If you want to leave it I can gaurantee you wont find nothing else like it. Music can control your mood and better any situation if you'll allow it to

This song kicked me in the gut when I realized it was about Heroin addiction. If you have a child suffering from addiction.. This is a poetic way to look inside an addict. The melody is beautiful just as our loved ones but the addiction is an Evil Thief! Our children will Never be the same again. I appreciate this artist and his gift.

This is definitely about Heroin/dope. Coming from a former/recovered (im not a 12 stepper) heroin addict, i can tell you that the first time i heard this song, back during my active use, i immediately knew what it was about.
I would think it would only be obvious to someone either actively using, or someone who made it out the other side with their mind, and life, intact. If you havent been there, i can see why people could hear other meanings.
Awesome song, but it does bring me back, for better or worse -
The song was originally based on heroin addiction. Research people, research. He said, she said, I think this, You're wrong on that.... Opinions, NONE matter. People are stupid anyway and will argue my interpretation response cause they think they know everything.
Pretty sure the artist knows what the song was about. There were several interviews where he confirmed the song's true meaning according to its' writer AND watching people argue this without truly knowing what the writer was expressing in the lyrics is pathetic.
Yes, this can easily be turned around into infidelity by a man or woman, but the facts are facts. It's all over the internet ffs, how people still argue all of this baffles me. -
I think that the song's more about the person singing telling someone they care about (i.e.: relationship partner, friend, child, etc.) that they may not be perfect, but they're the best thing said loved one has ever had and they won't "find nobody else like me [them]".
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
i believe that its about a girl whose bf or husband treats her badly and shes found another guy to take care of her.
-
It's probably not about heroin
-
I guess this song could be interpreted in 2 different ways. This song to some people could be about some cheating on there partner. Or it could be about heroin addiction. I guess its just the way you to understand the song. :) so in hine sight it has to different means. And its up to each person to Make that decision about it :)
