Vance Joy: Mess is Mine Meaning
Mess is Mine Lyrics
-
For me, 'mess is mine' is about accepting someone's flaws and actually seeing them.
"Talking like we use to do" so they've known for quite some time now, they have a history. Probably both of them are a little messed up
"it was always me and you" like 'you and I against the world'
They trust each other, probably had a relationship "This body is yours and mine"
"Hold on my darling, this mess was yours, now your mess is mine" they accept their significant other's mess(baggage).
"See you in the market place... Got two hours before my flight" see, I think they separated for some reason at some point and a long time has passed. Buut
"You're the reason that I feel so strong, the reason that I'm hanging on" they still trust and hold onto one another to keep standing, they make each other feel strong.
"You know you gave me all the time, oh did I give off enough of mine?" here they question if they were enough to the other, supportive, caring and understanding enought maybe(?)
"Bring me to your house and tell me 'sorry for the mess', hey I don't mind" here, try to change the word "house" for "soul"... See?
"You're talking in your sleep, out of time" are they understanding and caring enought to pay attention to what the other is saying here? Because speaking in one's sleep might mean that something is wrong with their mind.
"Well you still make sense to me" literally my favourite sentence ever. Even though they've been separated for a long time (metaphorically or not) and they've probably changed a lot, this person STILL makes sense to them because
