This Land is your Land Lyrics
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an...

California Stars aka This Land Is NOT Your Land lyrics by Woody Guthrie - sung by Jeff Tweedy w/ Billy Bragg in there somewhere maybe.
I'd like to rest my heavy head tonight
On a bed of California stars
I'd like to lay my weary bones tonight
On a bed of California stars
it is clear the singer is suffering from a definitive form of sodden hydrocephalic wet brain because he tells us his head his "heavy". perhaps it is due to his vast knowledge of the mangy world. his slushy head feels achy on his shoulders as if he can't quite hold it up on his own anymore. his frame of bones is tired and it needs rest too. feasibly he fought a scary, dreadful war and is exhausted from going through actual hell. california stars are "people". he wants to lie down on a bed of hollywood type folks. he believes that he deserves to rest on top of them. in his moist & soggy cranium, he is the cherry to their lalapalooza.
I'd love to feel
Your hand touching mine
And tell me why
I must keep working on
he wants to touch and caress the glitzy people. as he gently fondles their skin, he wants to ask them why he has to work for them all of the time. he wonders why they get to go to special awardish ceremonies and put their names into glorious pavement permanence while he gets whipped like an english pig-dog. hhm. he is a curious fellow which is very sweet for us listeners to realize.
Yes I'd give my life
To lay my head tonight on a bed
Of California stars
he'd lay down his life and his gigantic fluidish melon, just to be a part of the fancy crowd. he'd die for a piece of california ass-pie.
I'd like to dream
My troubles all away
On a bed of California stars
he has some troubles but he knows the superstars will delete them with a swift flick of the wrist. they are a magical group/constellation and he comprehends their powers to be deep and lengthy in his pensive soul. he wants to make a bed with them and lie down in it pronto.
Jump up from my starbed
Make another day
Underneath my California stars
They hang like grapes
On vines that shine
And warm the lovers' glass
Like friendly wine
grapes & wine symbolize sacrifice & the blood of jesus &/or the singer realizes the deal-makers are winos and he admires them for this trait. "they hang like grapes" means that they are "a bunch of"... possibly they are a highly celebrated ripe mass of gas held together by their own gravity. they might be dying to be picked hence plucked & placed into a bed of relaxation. why all of this talk of sleep? well, perhaps they tire easily. their vines shine means their hair glistens in the santa ana head winds. their lovers glass is/are their limo windshields. they are in love with their limousines and we can certainly understand why. the cars are glossy, big and free of charge. the singer believes this is sooo friendly that it sends him into a state of intoxication.
So I'd give this world
Just to dream a dream with you
On our bed of California stars
he'd donate the world to the twinkling points of light, just to dream a dream of what life would be like with their celestial bodies sacked-out next to his. the singer wants to head for the hills as he makes a mockery of himself by repeating this many too many times.
I'd like to rest my heavy head tonight
On a bed of California stars
I'd like to lay my weary bones tonight
On a bed of California stars
his head is the boss of his body and it's telling him that it needs an overdue vacation. he needs to slumber on top of the swanky folk. now.
I'd love to feel
Your hand touching mine
And tell me why
I must keep working on
he's reaching out for the prime celebrities and questioning them as to why they would work him so hard without informing him of the reason.
Yes I'd give my life
To lay my head tonight on a bed
Of California stars
his saturated brain wants to expire.
I'd like to dream
My troubles all away
On a bed of California stars
his head has achieved maturation yet some problems.
Jump up from my starbed
Make another day
Underneath my California stars
more of the same... simply making his fully-developed point extremely clear to the listeners.
They hang like grapes
On vines that shine
And warm the lovers' glass
Like friendly wine
in the limos, shiny succulent grapes are available in the gratis bar.. the grapes taste quite juicy & delicious as the stars are chauffeured around town. as the celebratories are shuttled about, they delight in hurling large grapes out of the open windows at homeless, jobless street folk. the big-wigged celebs guffaw as they watch the impoverished tramps scurry away helpless and confused... it is a formal relaxation technique used by scads of these hollywood types.
So I'd give this world
Just to dream a dream with you
On our bed of California stars
he's a bit envious of the provincial horde & desperately yearns to either be a narcoleptic or a sagacious star.
So I'd give this world
Just to dream a dream with you
On our bed of California stars
his plump head explodes....
(Dream a dream with you)
fade to black.
i'm not certain that i am correct... i am not an artist nor a writer, i am a very bored & simple english professor whom dabbles in astronomy...
