Zac Brown Band: Jolene Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Jolene Lyrics
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane
Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes
In the early morning rain
Lately my hands they don't feel like mine
My eyes been stung with dust and blind
Held you in my arms one...
-
What I feel listening. It reminds me of my selfishness. My Jolene would have lived in a tree with me. I lost her because I didn't think I was good enough for her. When I realized that my hands didn't feel like mine. Face down in a ditch is how felt. Beat up. Picture.... show she wishes we were together. Real work and or a real woman. These are what we need. They are the pursuit to happiness. I still don't know what love means. I still don't know how to love

This is the counter perspective to Dolly's song. The singer is Dolly's ex who ran off with Jolene. Since he was a cheater and Jolene was ok with stealing another woman's man the relations flamed out. The singer remembers the passion but also the pain.

He’s definable drug addicted. Sold his coat so he could get a fix. He’s at the bottom of the barrel (my hands don’t feel like mine) and just trying to survive. He needs something he can call his own. Can’t keep his girlfriend, wife, or daughter, and can’t keep a job (nine pound hammer).
-
I think it's about his estranged daughter that he doesn't get to see because of his addiction.

Jolene by Zac Brown Band, lyrics is about a guy talking to a girl, perhaps a serious relationship or two individuals who are married.
For the latest comment, sorry to hear about what's happening in your married life. I'm not sure if he is letting you know that he has a gf. I think you have to say to him that you don't understand his choices and see what he thinks about his choices and if you guys still want to save your marriage.
If he wants to change, try to call 1.888.319.2606 or go to recovery.org. Or mention this number or site.
Hope you guys can work it out and be strong for each other. God Bless.

My husband of 5 years listened to this song, from his girlfriends house over and over In the middle of the night. We are on the same YouTube account and he has no idea I can see the history. We have court soon. I love this man, however his addiction has robbed us of our happiness for the past 4 years. I think he knows our life would be wonderful if he could give up the drugs/alcohol but the stronghold is just too strong. It is hard for me to understand his choices.

from my point of view and my friend's, it seems like he lost a girl ("Jolene") because of drugs and "not about to go straight" means he's addicted and yet he still ends face down in a ditch in a bad situation...and he doesn't know what love means because obviously love would be giving up everything for that one person and he can't accomplish it.
