    Alice's restaurant was a restaurant/ more of a hole in the wall off the main street in stockbridge mass. Which is more famous as the setting for most of norman rockwell's saturday evening post covers for many a year. His museum is about 2 miles away from alice's. It is now or at least was a pizza joint last time I was up that way.

    There is no interpretation of this song. It means what arlo wrote about a period over thanksgiving in an abandoned church on main street where alice lived. And also the problems that ensued after taking and leaving a bag of garbage outside a closed town dump. It's a funny song that was made into a movie whose script was verbatim with the song's lyrics. Arlo was the son of woody guthrie one of if not the best folk singers of all time and the reason bob dylan came to new york. To meet a dying woody. The song has almost a cult following as it is played on virtually every radio station in the country at noon on thanksgiving day
