Avantasia: Dying for an Angel Meaning
Dying for an Angel Lyrics
I have come for you
And nobody can hear you scream
When I reach for you
Don't you remember they're feeding your face

The poem speaks about being in a dark place or in a bad situation, and someone coming to rescue the person from it. The line "you're awake in your darkest dream" refers to being stuck in a nightmare-like situation where reality and dreams become blurred. The "I" in the poem is the rescuer who has come to save the person from their suffering, although nobody else can hear their cries for help. The person is reminded of the pain they had been through in the past, and how they were left alone to deal with it.
The poem then goes on to speak about living on a dream and dying for an angel, which seems to suggest that sometimes people hold on to a hope or dream that keeps them going, even if there are no guarantees that it will come true. The reference to "dying for an angel" is metaphorical, implying that someone may sacrifice everything for something they believe in, even if there is no real reward in sight.
The poem asks the question of where one goes after reaching the top, and what one leaves behind. The lines about tearing down walls of love and lies suggest a need to break down barriers that prevent people from seeing the truth. The speaker acknowledges that the person has come alone and will go on alone, but the hope is that they will not have to suffer alone.
The poem ends with the repeated lines of living on a dream, dying for an angel, and the idea of giving everything until one is gone. The final line of "every day" suggests that this is an ongoing struggle, and that every day is a battle to hold onto hope and keep pushing forward, even in the face of darkness and despair. -
