This is a song about someone with fatal explosive diarrhoea brought on by eating Taco Bell on a hot day at the beach. Their girlfriend (who was eating fish and candy) wants to wind back the clock and prevent the fatality. She laments she let him go off and get Taco Bell, and wishes she had fed her boyfriend something else for lunch, probably the fish & candy she brought from home. The whirlpool reference shows the devastation and traumatized emotional state loved ones experience when a relative or partner dies of TEDS (Tacobell Explosive Diarrhoea Syndrome). Subsequently this song was the inspiration for the TED Talks, which seek to raise money for the prevention & treatment of Taco Bell diarrhoea fatalities.

I have read something about one of the band member's friends dying from a shark, which fits quite well with the song. What I think of with the giving of "fish and candy" is a slang for some female sex. What I do know for sure is this song kicks ass.
